Perfect start and end to the TMB
Jennifer Lon 23/08/2017 07:43Yes this hotel is located on the outskirts of Les Houches but it makes a perfect place to start the TMB (shuttle bus from Geneva drops you at the door) and to finish the TMB (the final stretch of the trail lies just below the hotel (and the shuttle bus back to Geneva picks you up at the door). At both ends of our walk we had a large room (great for sorting out our packs) with lovely views. The breakfast was great. The staff were very helpful and professional. And we celebrated the end of our walk with a beautiful Bastille Day dinner in the courtyard on a balmy summer evening. Highly recommended.
excellent start and finish to TMB
TrippettFon 13/08/2017 18:17We stayed three nights in Hotel Les Campanules--two on our arrival to start the Tour du Mont Blanc, one at the finish, and appreciated its location, coziness and comfort. Located on the edge of town on a winding road, one has to walk a bit to town, but the distance to the train station is manageable. Rooms were modern and comfortable and public areas inviting. There is a common area on the first floor where one can read or eat a private sandwich. Vincent and Sarah went out of their way to be hospitable, to explain how things work in the hotel (meal service, baggage room) and worked the bar/cafe with speed and friendliness. We had two dinners there and thought the food excellent. The breakfast buffet was diverse and of high quality, with delicious hot croissants. We were sorry to leave.
Mixed feelings about this hotel
Dave Bon 11/08/2017 15:54Les Campanules is situated on the edge of town on a road that winds up the mountain. We had a car so the distance from town was not really an issue. We walked into town a couple of times which took about 15 minutes. There seemed to be different cars in the car park each day so it can be assumed that most guests only stay for short periods in order to do hikes in the area. The hotel, inside and out, is styled on the traditional Alp region chalet buildings.
The room we had was a reasonable size and had a double and a single bed. It also featured a mountain view with a balcony which faced out to the other side of the valley. The view was spectacular even though for most of our stay the mountains were shrouded in cloud. There were no hot drinks facilities in the room nor any other amenities other than complimentary shower gels. The shower had good hot water and a very good shower head which made all the difference after a long hike. That said, the sealant around the shower tray was covered in a large amount of mould.
We had breakfast twice at the hotel, which was excellent. There was a large amount of things to choose from including bacon, sausages and boiled and scrambled eggs. Also all of the other usual breakfast items were available.
There was a small bar and a lounge area however we did not use these.
The staff were all friendly however we felt the service to be a little impersonal. That may however be a compromise to be made at a two star hotel.
I would recommend this hotel for a brief stay to suit anyone wishing to do the local hikes. What it does offer, it offers well, however it's limitations were quite evident during our stay.

uri20123on 10/08/2017 22:17The hottel is great clean and cozy. The staff was welcoming and the living room down stairs is most welcoming the room was great too. We ate dinner and it was very tasty. It is great place to start the tmb!
don't miss this gem near Chamonix
Ochenbcon 24/07/2017 13:32This was the nicest 2 star hotel I have ever stayed at - the rooms were lovely, the general areas were gorgeous, the food was very good (desserts were a bit mixed, but only down to merely good), and it was reasonably cheap! The view is worth paying for, but if you're restricted fear not, there is a glorious general living room on the first floor where you can hang out and gaze at the mountains. Other pluses: yoga lessons M-F, a playroom for little kids, and massages on-site
