What People are saying

Fantastic - wonderful Birthday celebration weekend

Travelmate_100on 15/08/2017 16:53

My boyfriend and I booked the weekend of the 12/13th August to celebrate my Birthday. This was our first visit and I was a bit apprehensive after reading some reviews as I wasn't sure if all the building work was now complete, as well as some of the issues people had in general. I am pleased to say the building work has finished and there wasn't anything I didn't like about the place or the staff. The staff were all very friendly and very helpful throughout our stay.

We booked our stay online three weeks before our stay, and my boyfriend decided instead or providing details of our robes and flip flop sizes online, phoned up two weeks in advance to give these details and to discuss the reason for our stay and to ensure we had a memorable celebration weekend. He spoke with Anna and she just could not do enough for us. She booked us in a lovely room and was so nice, she really made our stay. She arranged a very good modern superior room which was overlooking the lake and pool on the ground floor, she organised our dinner request in the restaurant in the old part of the original house with a window seat overlooking the lake, took care of requests including my surprise birthday cake/candle, and any additional treatments.

On the day we arrived all went to clock work. Anna was waiting at reception at 1.30pm gave us our complimentary drink and other staff check us in and took care of our bags so that Anna could take us on a tour of the building. Anna showed us completely around the building explaining where things are, where we were to sit for our treatments, including where to wait for the Thalsso pool, where the two restaurants are, the outdoor pool, indoor pool etc. We were then shown to our room and we immediately got into our swimwear and bath robes and slippers. The weather that weekend was fortunately very good so we used the outdoor terrace and loungers outside our bedroom. The views as well as the peace and quiet made us feel a million miles away from our everyday lives and it felt like we were on holiday in an instant, very relaxing.

The rest of the day we used the main swimming pool, thermal poolside suite with snow room, tropical rain shower and steam room, outdoor Jacuzzi, the heated waterbeds etc. It was amazing and facilities are really clean and it was not too busy. Plenty of clean towels which are constantly being replenished. We even were able to swim in the outdoor pool which is heated and the layout has such a sun trap, so bring sun lotion when the weather is nice.

The few treatments we had were great. Only a slight quibble was the 25 minutes back massage I had was not 25 minutes, more like 15 minutes, so I do think they need to work on making it 25 minutes, if that is what is advertised.

We used their bikes and cycled uses the routes they provide through lovely woodland and around the lake. We also walked part of the lake - stunning and peaceful. Such a beautiful location.

Food is fabulous and the choices were perfect and you don't come away feeling as though you had eaten rabbit food. It is all very delicious and nutritious and plenty of it if you are hungry. It was replenished regularly so there really isn't an issue.

Yes there are items you can pay extra for such as the menus give you the option to pay for additional dishes but there is still a vast selection without needing to buy them, or wine from the wine list in the restaurant, and if you do bring your own bottle for the bedroom you pay £2.50 for the ice bucket, and yes they do add on a gratuity and charity donation of £6.00. It is up to you if you do pay for these things. You have the choice.

I certainly came away wishing we stayed longer and would certainly come back. Thank you Champneys, you certainly made my Birthday special.

wonderful week

The renovated Forest Mere resort's new steam and ice chamber area is a great addition to the Thalassotherapy suite and iconic swimming pool. The food is gorgeous and the treatments are bliss. Had the most amazing aqua classes and stretch class with Jack Plumridge, also fantastic hike and nordic walking with Wendy. Farai and Annie for facial plus massage and manicure and pedicure respectively were a lovely treat too.

My new favourite Champneys!

I've just returned from a weekend retreat at Champneys Forest Mere. It was wonderful!

The front of house staff are excellent; friendly and efficient without making you feel hurried and the porter service were extremely helpful.

Kevin, the catering manager and his team, particularly Emma, are professional and surprisingly charming. One particular waiter, 'Armand', a lovely Hungarian guy, made our weekend so special. Champneys - you need to hang onto this guy - he is the most enthusiastic, friendly and funny waiter I've ever met in my life! And the food is excellent; buffet breakfast and lunch and waiter service for dinner and they catered reasonably well for my GF DF diet.

The layout of Champneys Forest Mere is simple and intuitive to navigate, the grounds are beautiful and the lake is exquisite.

There's a shop where you can pick up essentials and Champneys treats.

The treatment area is impressive, the staff knowledgeable and the massage I had was professionally done by a lovely lady, although not to my taste (too gentle).

The Spa area is outstanding. A stunning indoor pool and surprisingly warm outdoor pool. There are multiple, quirky, 'experiences' such as a snow room, jaccuzis which provide a better massage than most humans, rainforest showers, steam rooms, waterbeds, etc. I could spend all day here. A weekend in their spa, with their food, alone is worth the money.

My room was thoughtfully conveniently located and had all that I need; TV, tea making facilities, water, safe, ensuite bathroom, etc. Housekeeping are invisible and do an excellent job.

The only things that I would suggest for improvement are the mattresses which feel old and uncomfortable - I expected a really plush mattress at Champneys like I'd find in a similarly priced hotel. I think water should also be more readily available throughout the day. My personal preferences would be for a better selection of caffeine free herbal teas and for some dessert and cake options that aren't based on gluten and dairy, but this is peculiar to me. Small points that didn't distract from a stunning weekend.

I will definitely be back! Thank you.

Pure heaven

Feeling totally rejuvenated from an amazing week...My favourite spa! The setting & treatments 2nd to none & food delicious, but what made the stay even more special are the staff. In particular Jack & Wendy both excellent instructors who took the best stretch classes & aqua classes. Jack was kind enough to email the exercises to me. Can't wait to return in October. Thank you.

Yoga and spa relaxing weekend

Need more work on; Treatment was not so good however was corrected by the spa manager which was appreciated. General Service around the spa was friendly but not very knowledgeable of products or surroundings.
Couldn't fault: Fantastic location, amazing facilities. Room very comfortable. Yoga was superb and relaxing. Food is excellent with abundance of choices. Evening meal was great and we had the wonderful Armand serving us (and in the cafe). He was incredibly helpful, funny and lightened up our evening in the private room. I hope he is still there when we visit again. Would not hesitate to visit again.
