I have been meaning to write this review for a while now, of all the places we have visited around the world this stop will always be the one we talk about the most. Lets start with the Garth. It was a real privileged to stay in such a historic building that has been restored to its former glory, the old stables have been converted into guest rooms that are modest but very comfortable. There is a wonderful pool that helps wash away the desert adventures from the morning and the whole team that work at the Garth treated us like royalty during our stay. Dinner up on the top deck looking over the village was such a great way to end each day with great food and an awesome service. Chandelao village has some of the most friendly people we have ever met, the kids especially. We went out on the Jeep tour through other villages and the dessert, it was a real highlight and I would really recommend it. Thank you so much for the memories.

A great place to recharge the batteries

Out of the hustle of jodhpur a quiet haven, very hospitable owner who started a local venture to help women by giving them access to a trade and children access to computers. Our room was a converted stable and a very good job was made of it, usual trimmings of pool good food and wifi if needed

Quiet beautiful place with great hospitality

The place is really beautiful with nice comfortable and spacious rooms still retaining the charm of royal Haveli and big clean bathrooms. The property has a big swimming pool to cool off the heat. Its located at a distance of about 40kms from Jodhpur and makes for an ideal place for stay away from hustle bustle of city. What could be more relaxing than waking up to the chirping of birds :) . If you are staying in the property, do try to have delicious lunch/dinner.

The staff is courteous and always ready to help. Apart from that they have a crafts center next to the property which aims at empowering the local women from the village, you can visit this center 'Sundar Rang' and can interact with local women here, we spent almost every single day of our stay here. You can also visit lake in the near by village if you are into bird watching. you can also roam around in the village to see village life, locals are quite friendly and nice.

Overall, we had a very nice experience and would strongly recommend this place.

P.S. The rooms don't have television but wi-fi connectivity is available

Indian Village Delight!

Chandelao Garh is a gem full of wonderful surprises. On arrival Mr Pradhuman Singh warmly welcomed us to his ancestral home/fort and offered an additional room to our daughter as he had a spare. Rooms in the former stables were spacious and well appointed with hot water and fans. We relaxed by the big, beautiful pool, had delicious tea and snacks and met the family dogs Kitty and 2 month old Louie.

Dinner on the terrace with Mr Singh and other guests was starry - the authentic ethnic rural buffet cuisine was simple and absolutely delicious and the conversation was fascinating.

Breakfast next morning was served in the original central building and was also delicious with local and western options. We had prebooked Ayurvedic Massages which were interesting and relaxing and are highly recommended by us.

In the afternoon we visited the Arts and Crafts Centre next door to the Garh and is part of an effort by Mr Singh to support the traditions of the local community. After taking a close look at the work the ladies were doing we bought two lovely tops (our daughter had been in India on a textiles university course and recognised quality when she saw it), a block printed beaded scarf, a book, several decorative hangings and some beaded sugar bowl covers. We then presented the ladies with a hanger of assorted beads that my daughter no longer needed and there was great interest in a few of the styles.

We proceeded next door to the Computer Room - another initiative of Mr Singh's - 30 laptops that the village children can access after school. We met the teacher and looked around the room at the work the children were doing. We only wished we'd spent more time here helping out - we didn't think of it at the time as we were out exploring. We then presented a bag of assorted stationary items to the teacher - mainly things that our daughter was no longer using but sharpened and in perfect working order. Next door to the computer room was the Power Room filled with solar power batteries.

Then we headed through the village to the lovely watering hole where two ladies were collecting water and then preparing to carry it on their heads. They saw our interest and invited our daughter to place the vessel on her head. All the villagers were natural and happy and we enjoyed interacting with the local shopkeeper to buy some snacks. The wildlife at the water hole was in abundance and the village well is definitely something to see.

Another beautiful dinner on the terrace reflecting on the day with some other guests who had ordered a Jain meal and shared it with us and discussed Ayurvedic medicine and Indian culture.

Another lovely breakfast and sadly it was time to leave.

We would all highly recommend Chandelao Garh. Mr Singh is a delightful gentleman who is genuine in his care for his village. We are sure the Computer Teacher and Teachers at the 2 public and 1 private schools would appreciate anything to support the children with their learning. Next time we will prearrange with Mr Singh some volunteer work. We genuinely hope there is a next time because Chandelao Garh really is a gem.
