Staff needs training

We were in this Marriot hotel yesterday. While checking in we encountered a very cold and arrogant staff member who was very rude and impolite to us at the front desk. There was confusion about the reservation number that we prebooked and prepaid. Eventually it turned out to be a mistake on the part of the Marriot staff one digit was forgotten.The male staff member made a big fuss about that and immediately called our local agent and left us a family with two young children that happened to be travelling all day totally in the cold for more than half an hour while very unprofessionally joking with other guests. No empathy on his side at all. More over he misinformed us about the fact that the hotel was fully booked. When I spoke to another staff member later on it turned out to be that that wasn't the case at all. I got the impression that he took pleasure in sending us away and delighted in the feeling that he had the power to do so. He knew that the hotel wasnt fully booked because he had been there all day. We were arriving in the last couple of minutes of his shift. So I cannot imagine that he didn't know about that there were more rooms available.

Fortunately I got into contact with MissdeJesus. She helped us in a very friendly way and from her I got the information that everything could be solved, and that there was still a room for us available.

Stylish but noisy and over airconditioned

We stayed at the hotel 4 days for a small conference. The hotel is stylish and the bedroom furnishings interesting and upscale. However, the acoustics and temperature control were unpleasant. Arriving on Friday evening we were greeted by a noisy excessively reverberant and quite chilly lobby.

The noise and cold accompanied us to the sleeping room. The thermostat was set at 65 deg and curiously could not be set higher than 72. The AC was also annoyingly loud with a strong low-frequency hum. We tried another room and it was the same, apparently a design flaw in the installations.

On the upside the shower was most commodious, the bed and pillows quite comfortable, and the TV large and clear. Also the breakfast buffet is quite pleasant with good healthy options available; the same cannot be said for the lunch buffet.

Were it not for the noise and cold I would have given the hotel 4 stars.

Inadequate room maintenance and housekeeping

I was most unsatisfied with my treatment at this Marriott Hotel. My stay was for 4 nights. Although I requested that my room be cleaned each day, it was never cleaned. Most days the bed was pulled up and the trash was taken out but that was all. The coffee/tea supply was not replenished at all and even though I called several times for housekeeping and room service to assist, I each and every day had to go to the front desk and get my own supplies. So even though I had been told exactly when they would be up to my room with those supplies, no one ever showed up. When I arrived into my room on that first day, there were some brown “stains” on the toilet. I assumed that the toilet was stained and therefore that the stains were not removable, but on the second day I used a wet paper napkin and sure enough part of the brown “stain” instantly came off. So I left the remainder of the stain for the housekeeper and never once was it cleaned off. The interior of the sink always had brown, somewhat gritty, stains on all from corners of the rectangular sink.
In the Fitness center, there is a refrigerator filled with water bottles. This is a very nice touch except that for several days, the refrigerator has been totally empty. At times, the public restrooms were devoid of toilet paper. I did not return on a frequent enough basis to see how long it took them to refill the toilet paper holders.
The staff at the hotel does not appear to be a very happy or dedicated staff. I blame management for this. In my experience, when management is supportive of staff and treats them with dignity, it is just natural for the staff to present themselves as happier and more dedicated.
I ate once in the bar/restaurant area. The waitress appeared overworked and it took an inordinate amount of time to get our check so that we could leave after our meal. And the waitress never did bring our ordered pitcher of water to our table.
The van transportation service was very good, except the upkeep on the exterior of one of the vans was actually dangerous in that the step up into the passenger area was slippery as with oil and the three passengers all almost slipped on it.
We had to call on the air conditioner because it had been set so that we were unable to make the room any warmer than it had been set for. The “engineer” took care of that for us to our satisfaction.
The toilet tank would fill only VERY slowly and so we called for service. We were told that it could not be fixed. So I took the lid off the tank and lifted the arm and it worked perfectly from then on. I really wonder what the service person did because he certainly did not fix the problem.

Didn't live up to hype...

Hotel renovated nicely but the air conditioning in the room is on a sensor. Was there on a hot day, gold member, used points, checked in around 4pm - temp in room 85 degrees. Called and was told the air conditioning should kick in within 15 to 20 minutes. Around midnight only down to 79. Got to 72 by morning but a very uncomfortable night. Renovations nice but room and bathroom small. Square sink took up most of the vanity, water on one side only, corners dirty, probably hard to clean. Everything else was very clean. Hotel a good option as long as weather is moderate.

This property is very nice. Rooms are comfortable. Large TV and work station. Coffee maker frig. Nice clean bathroom. There is a restaurant and lounge. Staff is very helpful. Located off I-26 on the way to Charleston. Near airport, convention center and restaurants. I did get a very goid rate. Still very nice hotel.
