Amazing service at Saturday Night DRinks

We had pre-dinner drinks to celebrate my Aunts birthday. The service was absolutely amazing, warm and heartfelt. Sergio who served us was world class as he knew it was my Aunt's birthday and arranged an impromptu birthday cake which literally made her day. Also as my Aunt was a little excited she knocked over her champagne glass and it broke. The head of front of house cleaned it up with speed and lack of fuss and so kindly replaced her glass free of charge. So thoughtful...
Average Hotel for the Money

Hotel is in a good location, although if you don't like busy then don't stay here. The streets around the hotel are buzzing with pubs and restaurants, and the bar in the hotel on a Friday night packed. I have marked it average because of their attention to detail....no one to greet, hold door, help with luggage when we arrived. Very abrupt receptionist, verging on rude, didn't explain breakfast, facilities etc. We asked for an upgrade as this was highlighted in our initial reservation. Again verging on being rude she told us that it wasn't pssobile as the hotel was full, fair enough but just didn't like the way she was telling us this when the guests next to us were being given a complimentary upgrade! Went to the bar in the evening and fought our way to the bar, ordered our drinks, and husband has a gin and tonic.... tall glass slice of lemon and tonic, no pazzaz of delivery, no little twist of rosemary in a fun glass. Second gin and tonic,,,tall glass slice of lemon and tonic but different gin but same boring delivery! Is something wrong here .... we seem to have second class written across our foreheads!
Beds are queens and conformtable, rooms are compact and fine. Would we stay here again? Absolutely not! For our hard earned money, I would stay at The Covent Garden Hotel which is lovely and the staff a delight, and in fact anywhere else. For the price per night you could stay pretty much anywhere. Here for two nights with two rooms and the family and wishing I had booked somewhere else :(
Lacking tea and coffee facilities.

Always a pleasant hotel. Buzzing bar and restaurant. Air con very efficient in the rooms, quiet too. Nice drawing room with honesty bar and cosy fire to relax all night if you wish. Couldn't find any tea or coffee facilities in room which was a let down. I realise a cuppa may be brought up to you first thing in the morning however it's an intrusion that most people don't want first thing.
Just jaw-droppingly good

Was it the pillow mist to help you sleep thoughtfully placed on the bedside table? Or maybe the AWESOME salon-grade hairdryer? Or just the fabulous interior. WHat's not to love about this place? Oh, and the restaurant was excellent too - suited our teenage family of 5 just perfectly.
Did NOT meet expectations!

Honestly, was expecting a lot more from this hotel based upon their website and a few reviews. Arrival was okay but always prefer a more personal greeting with someone welcoming you at the entrance rather than lining up as though we are about to experience a Disney ride. The staff were pleasant and functional rather than genuine 'we are happy that you chose us for your stay' attitude. Nonetheless, this is not the overall review experience but rather a personal opinion at this stage of coming to the hotel.
The elevator is large and frequent which is a plus for getting to and from your room. We were on the second floor and had a few more steps to reach our suite. The door locking mechanism is difficult to manage but we got used to it. Upon entry of our room we were impressed with the decor and especially the Herringbone wallpaper. The bed and bedding was lovely and the amenities in general upscale and appreciated. The saddest part of the room amenities was the bar, whereupon the hotel charges more than four times the street value for a small bottle of Evian and when we were really thirsty, we had to open one and then to our amazement, the hotel does turn down service and includes a complimentary bottle of water!? We purchased a large bottle of water for £6.00 from the restaurant knowing it would be cheaper than taking the bar bottles. We did not need to purchase the restaurant bottle after all ;-(
The view from our window was most disappointing (very difficult to open two windows to get fresh air - we needed the a/c as opening the windows would have brought in kitchen smells instead) and left us feeling as though we were just above the restaurant with its ugly vent facing us.
For the price of the room it was NOT good value overall and should be priced nearer to 50% the asking...even for it's location.
The bar area is lively and was packed to the gills...good for them except, the small restaurant where we had made a reservation for our celebratory anniversary evening was adjacent to this more than noisy atmosphere. The website gives a different impression overall.
The decor in the Oscar Restaurant and bar area is once more attractive (love the wall!) but overshadowed by the noise and thus, makes the ambience for Oscar's less-than -inviting overall.
We had asked the front desk where Oscar's was was and they advised that it was through the bar and handed us two complimentary champagne vouchers...oh dear, what a poor impression for hospitality this was! Rather than identifying us on arrival at the restaurant and simply bringing the glasses to us as a complimentary offering for our anniversary dinner they chose to give us two tickets as though we could use them anywhere...not good impression because the champagne was actually very cheap...but welcomed nonetheless.
The staff were friendly for the most part however, our drinks waiter forgot about us and we had to flag a waitress down. The food was well presented and yet, the main sole dish was somewhat dry but edible ;-). Starter of smoked salmon was excellent and could easily have been added to the main course offerings for the size alone. My wife's vegetarian main dish was good and we decided to order some ice-cream for dessert to help us cool down from the hot atmosphere.
Overall, I would give this hotel a 3 star and recommend they look at some of the comments here to address for future guests. Not sure we would return but am sure others will enjoy it's location and offerings.
