I expected to sleep for 150 Euros...
Vibeke-Maria Gon 09/08/2017 14:08After paying 150 Euros I expected to be able to sleep in the room. That was unfortunately impossible because we had 100 mosquitos inside our room and we were not able to sleep, and I had mosquito bites all over my body. I was therefore quite tired, itchy and angry when I went to the reception the next day. The manager was not apologising at all, he ment that we (the guests) should have gone into some old closet in the room to find mosquito detergent, and that we should have put that on.
He also said we could have told him at 6 pm. (that is when the staff leaves the reception). I told him that we didn´t know that there where 100 mosquitos inside at 6 pm, because we came back to the hotell at 9 pm.
After that he brought out the cleaning lady, and blamed it all on her!!! She was standing there almost crying because of what happened to us!
Let me tell you one thing: It is NOT us as guests who are the problem, and it is not the cleaning lady, who is only doing her best. IT is YOUR fault as a manager, who are too cheap to put up mosquito nets in from of windows/door or other ventilation possibilities, since clearly that is a big problem from you at the Chateau.
The worst thing is that you did not even apologize! You just blamed it on everybody else but you! You should have been polite and friendly and you were just rude!
My body is filled with bites, (my right arm has 15 bites) and our poor baby has 5 bites in her face... This place is not worth 150 Euros pr. night...
And the 16 euros breakfast is not worth half of it. Eat your dry croissant yourself.
Fabulous escape
Karen Lon 28/07/2017 00:42We stayed for four nights in a top floor turret room in the main building. The room was very spacious and scrupulously clean. The views were beautiful. It had an acceptable wifi signal, and glorious airconditioning (climatisation), which was much needed when we visited. The owner/front desk gentleman was very helpful with maps, recommendations, and directions, and seemed to really care whether we were enjoying ourselves. We arrived late, around 9 p.m. and they still graciously offered to serve us dinner. We had three, beautifully prepared and presented, courses on the terrace overlooking a beautiful expanse of property and a pond. The were roses in full bloom, and lovely landscaping. Reese, the cook and server, is from England and was full of warmth and humor. The property is well placed between St. Emilion and Bordeaux. We also got to Cap Ferret in just two hours from there. We would definitely go back in a heartbeat. Our regret was that we didn't have more time to just enjoy walking the grounds or relaxing by the beautiful pool. A comment on the previously mentioned moldy smell. We did encounter it but stopped noticing it once we were inside. We encountered this in every old limestone building we entered everywhere in France. The hotel was very clean and we did not see any mold. This is a very quiet, romantic spot.
Overpriced and underdelivered
SteveA22on 20/07/2017 09:52What a disappointment. There are some real positives about Chateau Camiac and some real negatives. First the positives. The building looks incredible as you approach. Quite spectacular. The meal at night was very good. The waiter Reece was excellent. He could not have been more helpful. On the negative...... The grounds need some work. The grass hadnt been mowed for a while and so looked untidy. Not the image projected on the website. When we arrived we entered via the lift at the back and there was a terrible mouldy smell that didnt go away while we were there. Breakfast was ok but not value for the price charged. The owner was not particularly friendly .... seemed like an inconvenience having us there. The place has enormous potential but needs some love and more staff to bring it up to the level that warrants charging the price they do. It feels like you are paying for the lovely building but then get disappointed with so many other small touches. I woudnt recommend it for the price.
Lovely!
PeterG1958on 30/07/2016 22:23Loved this beautiful slightly eccentric chateau. Stayed in the barn conversion at the rear of the main house, beautifully renovated. We ate in the restaurant, the food and wine were great, the young woman who seems to do most things is an absolute star, helpful, friendly and funny. We would definitely stay again.
Mixed impressions, mixed emotions
Mats Ion 09/07/2016 08:29As I check out after two days it is with very mixed feelings. On one hand this chateau is fantastic, I got a lovely big room in the "barn" and the staff are very kind and helpful. On the other hand it was quite empty, I was the only guest, they forgot to turn on the hot water and on the day of my arrival I couldn't get dinner as they had no staff. The breakfast and dinner (second day) was over priced but the wine was to die for 😍 no matter the cost.
Maybe the lack of attention to detail was just because I was the only guest but that doesn't make my experience any better.
