What People are saying

Fantastic setting

David Son 15/08/2017 21:56

We visited the Chateau on a car tour. It's location is amazing. The grounds has very old ruins, nice garden areas and ample parking. We sat outside on their patio to enjoy drinks, on the downside the service was very very slow. Our bedroom was very spacious and well appointed. The food served in their restaurant was very good and served by professional staff.
There is an outdoor swimming pool which we did not use.

Beautiful hotel in stunning surroundings

We stayed for 2 nights on our was to Explore the Champagne region.
We were with our dog, but as agreed all was ok upon arrival with a blanket & bowl in the beautiful room.
The hotel and ruins are beautiful & we enjoyed walks in the surrounding areas.
I think the standard of dinner is excellent and not a bad selection of wines either.
My only small fault would be service is a little thin during breakfast or for drinks. I imagine this is a staffing issue as the staff were always friendly and keen to serve you.
We did use the swimming pool (not heated) and don't worry the dog is too smart to swim in water that cold!
A great stop on your way south......

Chateau with a difference

A lovely view as we entered this amazing hotel...surrounded by an old ruin which provides a lovely backdrop whilst having drinks on the terrace.
We were upgraded to a suite with a view over the pool .. And given a welcome champagne which was a lovely surprise.
Our room (number 9) was Large but quite dark and the bath/shower/bed and sofa all in one room with curtains to separate the different area. Nice soft towels and dressing gown, tea making facilities all good. The Bed creaked and was a bit uncomfortable but the room was clean and stocked with nice toiletries.
The corridor to the bedrooms was a bit of a let down - we wondered what sort of room we were being taken to as it was very shabby and had cleaners things stored at the foot of the staircase.. All a bit disappointing given the beauty of the other parts of the hotel.
The food and drinks were nice (but expensive at €19 for a cocktail)
Odd behaviour by Christian - the head waiter who chased us to the outside terrace where we went Fiona after dinner coffee - to sign our dinner bill - even though we were residents!
The waitress Audrey was lovely and so nice and helpful - always a smile!
All in all very nice but due more to its location and surroundings than anything!

Great location but poor service

ChristiaanHuynon 30/07/2017 14:11

The hotel, the rooms, the grounds and the ruins are beautiful. That being said, sadly the service was simply below par.
Long wait times for drink orders, the terrace was not being serviced half the time. When wanting to pay for dinner/ drinks, and asking the bill, we were told to wait... even though we had been waiting for 20 minutes already. If things were very busy, I would have understood, but in reality the staff is more busy talking to each other rather than providing service to its guests.
Sadly this place has a fantastic potential, but the staff let it down. A real shame.

Great food. Smart hotel. Your very own RUIN

Hotels always do one thing better than the others. Here. For us. It was the food.

It was great.

Artful. But not silly.
Tasty but not woah! What! Was! That! Tastes...

Good wine list. But not encyclopaedia's.

Attentive staff without hanging on your shoulder. And quick with it.

...

We stayed one night. And that was about right. It's in the middle of nowhere. So you want to soak up everything they have to offer then scarper.

That's what we did...

We swam in the pool. It gives you a killer view of the impressive building. It's flipping cold. (August)

We visited the spa. The big jacuzzi thing was fun. The sauna and Haman was out of order. Disappointing.

We ate dinner. The food was was skillfully cooked and presented. And swift. A rare thing in France! Loved it.

The rooms are all different. But a modern approach is taken to compliment the touches of classical architecture.

Nice big tub. (took an age to fill)
Nice wet room. (You need a degree in shower skills to work it though)

All the bits and bobs you need. Even earbuds.

We slept like babies. The joys of a quiet country residence.

Breakfast was great. Sadly no complimentary Champagne as found in many other hotels in the Champagne region. But we soldiered through. Life's just tough sometimes.

The gardens are gorgeous. We chased butterflies and basked outside in the morning sun.

You even have your very own ruin to stroll over to as you digest breakfast.

All in all a terrific food offer with a nice hotel attached. Great staff. And a Ruin.

Good for a nights stop enroute elsewhere. Make the most of everything. Then move on refreshed.
