What People are saying

Disappointed

thomasi918on 12/08/2017 08:18

The food was ok and the communal areas were charming but the bedrooms are in need of updating and the service was non-existent. Only the wonderful Sommelier knew what he was doing in terms of the personal touch!

Disappointing stay August 2017

maryhO2726EGon 07/08/2017 11:17

Stayed 4 nights. Building is a magnificent chateau, but quality of room and service was poor. The interiors in the room were 'cheap', particularly the bathroom. Service was very patchy. Some of the front desk team were friendly but some just did not seem to care. Wifi not working for two of the four days we were there. Did not seem a problem to the front desk!

Overall hard to see the value in this hotel. Probably should not hold the Relais & Chateuux branding

Castle living at its best

Exceptional setting and by far the best Relais et Chateau value with their "tarif promotionnel ". Our challenge was the Hertz GPS in the Renault didn't have the Chateau as a destination yet Waze did. There is so much to see and taste is you like Cote Du Rhône or want to discover its intricacies.

Not even close to four stars- under-staffed, no wi-fi, rooms need updating.

This property is not a 4 star hotel. While the common areas indoors are historic and kept up well, the individual rooms are not in great shape and are outdated. The wi-fi did not work at all during our stay- more specifically, the wi-fi itself seemed to work, but there was no outgoing connectivity to the internet. Repeated inquiries at the front desk just assured me that a request was put in to a technician, but there were never any results and it did not work at any point during our three day stay. The pool was small, and felt like something from a motel- certainly not luxurious- its also a solid 5 minute walk from the main building to get to. Linens felt more "motel" than high end resort.

Staff were minimal- I could never count more than 3-4 people on a shift in total even though this is high season- and thus difficult to find- upon returning in the evening, the front desk was not manned. To get a drink we had to hunt someone down in the restaurant. Service to the pool happened once an hour at most- we had to call the front desk from our cellphone to get a bottle of water. The roses they served were undrinkable- an opinion shared by another couple at the pool as well. The staff also failed to confirm a reservation we had asked them to make at a local restaurant- the restaurant called to confirm- and the front desk said they had no record of us staying there! Thankfully the restaurant was very accommodating and eventually took us, though we had to wait an additional hour to be sat

The property is in severe need of updating- the doorknobs are so old that keys were difficult to get to work in them. When we came back at night the hallways upstairs were completely dark and we had to search for light switches in the dark using our phones as flashlights- this is completely unprecedented in any hotel we have ever stayed in, let alone one that claims to be a 4 star hotel. The bathroom showers had no curtains to deflect water and only a handheld sprayer, without so much as a hook- washing your hair required gymnastics and getting water everywhere.

It felt like a lonely haunted castle that had seen better years and management decades ago- akin to the resorts in the Catskills and Poconos, or the enchanted castle in Beauty and the Beast. Don't be fooled by the pictures on the site- the common and outdoor areas in the main building are in decent shape, but everything else is not. Nothing about this felt like a 4 star experience.

Charming visit in rural France

This historic hotel came as asurprise after driving backroads and arriving at this glorious site. Very welcomingreception, very helpful with lots of historic knowledge of the place. Swim in the afternoon was topped by visit of a couple of deer close by. Dinner at night was first class, though a little slow in between courses. Total impression, very good!
