What People are saying

Peace, perfect peace

amarilloannieon 29/07/2017 13:26

While visiting WWII sites in Normandy we stayed four nights at the Chateau de Sully. We were pleasantly surprised by how quiet and peaceful the location is, about 3 miles from town and in the midst of fields and pastures. The grounds are beautiful and well cared for. Our room was on the top floor of the annex with steeply sloping ceilings, my 6-foot plus husband had head bumping issues. There is no AC but leaving the windows open cooled us off enough, but let in the flies.
There is an excellent pool, jacuzzi, and sauna. The restaurant was very expensive and we did not eat there, choosing to go into Bayeux for breakfast at local bakeries. One of our party arrived late and had a meal which she rated among the best she has ever had.
The staff are almost bi-lingual and very helpful.

Wonderful!

We (wifey, 11yr old son and I) have been delighted by our brief stay here at Le Chateau de Sully. It is a bit like a mini Cliveden (at a small fraction of the price). Wonderful staff who have been universally friendly and helpful. An amazing room (#10) in this spectacular building with beautiful ornamental gardens. A Michelin starred restaurant which was a festival of flavour and a lovely selection of wine (we tried the Gevrey Chamberin Faively - lovely, though there are more than 300 wines to choose from). Some of the other reviewers have commented on the place needing a bit of a spruce. I'd respectfully suggest that this is NOT a big corporate operation, it has a characterful, family run feel to it. If marks on skirting and scuffed paintwork here and there aren't your thing then perhaps a stay at the local Ibis would suit you better. For us, those little details are tiny (to the point of irrelevance) in comparison to the overall experience, which is just WONDERFUL. I want to bring my friends and family here and heartily recommend it.

Delightful 2-night Stay

Two couples enjoyed our two-night stay at Chateau de Sully May 29 and 30, 2017. As our taxi made the turn onto the property, we all 'oohed and awed' in delight. It is a visual feast and we immediately decided after check-in to explore the grounds instead of taxiing back to Bayeu. What a lovely stay we had. We only ate 1 meal at the hotel: dinner (no breakfast) but it was a slow leisurely and enjoyable experience. Very quiet during the day and evening hours for restful sleep. Front desk service was very accommodating and helpful.

Highly recommend this hotel. It is about 1 mile from Bayeux city.

Not as good as we remembered

My husband and I spent a night at Chateau de Sully with my father. We had been there a few years ago and remembered a lovely diner. My father had been there a couple of years ago and also remembered a nice diner.
The rooms were as we remembered. Adequate for a hotel of this rating but nothing standing out as great. Likewise for the breakfast buffet.
Diner was unfortunately a disappointment for all of us. The chef was clearly trying to be clever with a lot of foams and quirky bit size items but every course (we all tried different things) was lacking especially for the price (EUR 26 for an average egg dish is just not acceptable). Nothing was badly cooked or presented but none of the dishes were well seasoned, most were unoriginal and the deserts in particular were dull. We did not find anything on the menu that we could not have come up with and cooked just as well at home. Very disappointing after lovely meals in our previous visits. Maybe this chef is a victim of his success?
I hope this trends reverses as the setting is super nice and both the staff and owner are friendly.

Spectacular One Star Michelin Dinner

Celebrated a birthday here. The setting of this Chateau is straight out of another era. The restaurant serves a superb dinner, artistically presented, delicious multi-course meal with numerous "intermezzos" while waiting for each course. This is leisurely dining at an elegant level.
