What People are saying

Truly awful

Sandy Ron 09/10/2016 01:04

It's a pity that the person in our group who made this booking doesn't read trip advisor otherwise he would not have booked a hotel with such bad and well deserved reviews. There were dead bushes in pink flower pots at the front door, the halls and corridors were strewn with dead leaves and dead insects. The receptionist was uninterested and sharp. Our rooms were filthy and dilapidated . The pre dinner drinks room was cold and, like the rest of the place lit with ugly lighting. Any new furniture was cheap modern office type stuff that was in such bad taste that whole atmosphere was cold and uninviting. We asked if the fire could be lit but..no. We were a group of eight and there were five other people eating in the over lit characterless dining room. One of our group went to the kitchen twice to ask for drinks as there were no staff. Surprisingly the food was quite nice. The rooms were so dirty that sleeping wasn't easy and a look round the " spa" showed the same lack of cleanliness,,,,unusable. We were due to stay two nights but next day explained to the owner that because of the dreadful state of the place we would leave that morning. The breakfast looked dusty. Such a shame as the grounds and building have potential.

Good potential, but could be better

The château is very good looking and offers a nice stop for travelers or couples to do a romantic weekend. The jacuzzi is great and the pool big enough to swim (even if it could be cleaner). The room was spacious and the bed enormous and comfortable. It felt a little outdated and could use a little refresh. Breakfast was good with local products. Overall okay experience, we felt the place was a little let down and could better taken care of.

Charming, quiet and comfortable

A beautiful historic "castle" in the middle of Brittany, very quiet in a wide landscape, very charming rooms and exquisite restaurant. Contrary to what it says at the gate: the restaurant is closed on Sundays.

Disappointing evening .

Ate here last week as part of a small group celebration . No welcome in the hotel lobby. Found the rest of our group in the lounge area . No fire , freezing cold room . Meal was acceptable , presentation on the plate was good . We ate from the €39 menu. Lukewarm scallops overpowered by the olive tapenade. Main course beef was over cooked sitting on a bed of cold , unseasoned red cabbage . White chocolate cheesecake was tasty. There were four other guests in the dining room. No decorations for Christmas which could have given the place more ambiance. There was a small fire lit in the room but we left feeling really cold .
We have not eaten here for over three years but decided to try again as it's so close to home.
The style has changed in the dining room but no feeling of being really welcomed other than the smiles from the two waitresses . This place has great potential , the owners still have some work to do .

Missed opportunity

The potential of this imposing chateau hotel is enormous but the lovely couple who run it clearly don't understand what their clients expect. Despite staying here in November, we were not the only customers. The wonderful big fireplaces were empty and as a result the place was very cold, even during a period which was mild. Our room on the top floor was spartan and there was no heating on when we arrived although, given time, the room did warm up eventually. A small fire had been lit in the lovely fireplace in the sitting room which was insufficient to keep one warm when sitting next to it. The dining room also had a lovely big fireplace which, again, was not lit. I cannot remember when I last had to wear 5 layers of clothes in a hotel dining room. The food at dinner was lacking in seasoning and frozen peas and carrots were served to accompany the steak. The website pictures promise an indoor heated swimming pool which was closed. All this is a shame as this place could be fabulous with a very small effort.
