What People are saying

if you want to feel like a princess......visit there...

It felt like in the fairytale...the environment is so unique. Unlike some other reviewers, I love the fact that hotel served only breakfast. It's quite and tranquile. They have good restaurants near by...it feels as you are in a province which has a special charm on its own..Please visit Bounne, a historic town nearby. Fascinating. Chateau du Clos de Vougeot is soon beautiful. Going there again in June 2017.

Lovely old French charm....

We booked a junior suite & a deluxe double room - both rooms were very comfortable & well-appointed. The huge suite came with a lounge area with a Nespresso machine & a coffee bar that was very well-stocked. The lounge area opened up to a garden which was nice. The marbled bathroom was large and came with a separate WC, and a shower over a bath. Best of all were the soft fluffy towels and Aveda products. The deluxe room was also very cosy & comfy, and while not as big as the suite (obviously!!) & no Nespresso machine, you'll find everything that you need there to be relaxed & comfortable.

The staff, especially Olivier are very warm & friendly, and it's like you're visiting with friends. A simple breakfast was served in the parlour (not at the big table in the dining room, as others experienced) and the croissants, smoked meats, fruits & yogurt spread was sufficient for us.

On the day we left, Olivier offered to drive us to the train station in Dijon and it was so interesting to hear him share details about the town and what he enjoys doing, again it felt just like you are with an old friend. As we didn't have time for breakfast, he actually packed some fruits, drinks and croissant sandwich for us at no charge. That was so nice and we were very touched.

At the end of the day, when you travel, you want to stay somewhere where it feels like home and welcoming, and this chateau definitely provides that. We hope to be back real soon!!

Merci to Olivier & team for making our stay so enjoyable.

Centrally located in the Burgundy wine region, charming

Charming chateau in Chambolle-Musigny, nice park, quiet, a good choice for winery visitors. No restaurant or bar. Friendly staff, small and intimate place, breakfast at one big common table for all guests.

Charming hotel but please be aware...

Chambolle Musigny is adjacent to Vougeot, it sits next door to Vosne Romanee and just 2 miles across the N974 to Flagey Echezeaux, 3 miles to Chambertin and around 5 miles from Nuits Saint George so for all those that know about these things, it sits in the finest area for Premier and Grand Cru red wine in the world (in addition to Bordeaux of course!). The views are spectacular, the driving sedate and safe and the food in the local restaurants is absolutely delicious. Most importantly, the wine is incomparable and it is beyond me why anyone that enjoys wine would want to drink anything other than French (and a little Italian, of course!) since their wine is just so spectacular. I am going to repeat this sentence in all of my reviews about this trip as having had to endure several months of Californian slop earlier on this year, just makes me wonder why Americans drink it when French is available everywhere in their country, but I suppose it's not much different with us Brits and our obsession with Aussie dregs. I am a Brit and a French wine snob and very proud of it!

We stayed here because we drove through Chambolle Musigny 7 years ago and spotted this beautiful hotel and we both agreed that we wanted to stay here during our next visit to the area which due to all our travel commitments has been this long.

It is in a lovely location in the heart of the village but be warned that depending on the direction you arrive from, the turning in is very sharp and you must reverse several times in order to get your vehicle in through the gates safely, but once in, there is a huge gravel drive to park in front of the hotel. The greeting was warm by Alexandra and even though there was a minor mix-up with the details of our booking, it was dealt with very quickly.

We were shown to our room which was the best in the whole hotel! It is on the second floor and due to the construction of the house (an ex-wine domaine), the building cannot have extensive modern facilities installed so there is no lift and no air-con but this isn't a problem for us as we are able bodied to climb and if it's warm, we open a window and they do provide mobile cooler units in the heat of summer. The room was extraordinary. Beautifully presented in natural tones with a four-poster bed at one end, a sofa, chairs and table, writing desk and plenty of storage and chests. The room then leads out onto what can only be described as a tennis-court for a terrace, since it is so large! The only downside is that it is overlooked by an adjacent house that is currently being renovated so not only is it unsightly, it has a number of gruff, burly workmen on it all day long so there was no naked sunbathing on the comfy sunbeds or even a chilled glass of Montrachet using the provided seating and table, which was a shame! It looks like it will be next year until they finish, so be warned.

The bathroom is huge with a lovely marble floor and double sink, although it only has a shower over the bath that has no screen so water does go everywhere which is a hazard on marble! The toilet is separate, which is nice and the bathroom is stocked with Aveda products (my wife's favourite!) but they aren't too generous with them, which isn't surprising!

One of the main reasons to come here is to try the Hotel Domain wine as there is a large degustastion area, presumably for tour-groups and a makeshift bar to sit at, plus an outdoor seating area. I was disappointed at the lack of bar facilities as they only offer their own wine so if you want a beer, a malt whisky or a G'n'T, tough luck. This is a major deficiency as it wouldn't be much to offer more variety of drinks as believe it or not, not everyone drinks wine, even in Burgundy as we discovered by chatting with the girl who was assisting us and is from a neighbouring village, who only drinks beer! She recommended my wife to try 'Desperado' which she did in Epernay a few days later and loved it! I tried several wines, including a very cheeky Gevry Chambertin and elegant Chambolle Musigny but found that the prices were way over what other producers were asking for the same vintage, so didn't purchase. I found this disappointing as having already visited various other châteaux in the Cotes de Beaune region prior to travelling north to Cotes de Nuits, I had become very familiar with the expected prices. These were not Premier Cru wines, just the ordinary Village Cru so I am bemused as to why they were so overpriced considering the huge competition and to be honest, hotel guests should receive a little discount!

The other lack of facility to note is that there is no restaurant. Breakfast is taken in a communal room at a large dining table. I cannot remark on this as I absolutely refuse to pay such an extortionate rate of €15- PER PERSON for some meat, cheese, cereal and boiled eggs and toast! I will say that this is one thing that the French have got very wrong as we encountered this in every hotel we visited on this tour. They all rip you off for breakfast! Unlike in other locations that we stayed, this is remote so there isn't anywhere within walking distance, so do some research and find a local cafe to drive to for croissants and coffee. There are actually two restaurants in CM, one virtually opposite but neither open for breakfast, which is a shame. There are also a number of local domaines where you can try before you buy and they all offer a fine cross-section of the best of Burgundy so try them all as tasting is free if you purchase.

To sum up, this is a lovely hotel to stay in just for the rooms and the delightful and relaxing lounge, but since there is no restaurant or bar on-site, there is little to keep you in the hotel so it's really only a B&B, but without the 'B' as they charge such an exorbitant amount for breakfast.

Beautiful chateau with wonderful reception

PousoAlegre on 03/09/2016 09:35

We stayed here back in April 2016. This chateau is beautiful! We were welcome warmly and with a big smile by the attentive staff Olivier. When we arrived late, around 4:45pm, there was no staff to provide wine tasting, so Olivier took care of arranging a complimentary wine tasting in a Cave a few steps away. He also took care of booking a restaurant for us for dinner, which had great food. Olivier was super! We were upgraded to the suite, which was fabulous! Very large room, with separate sitting area, spacious marble bathroom with all amenities of a 5* hotel. The room was a little warm because the sun shines on the large windows in the afternoon, but we opened the windows and the evening cool air took take of cooling the room. The bed was very comfortable. They did have the turndown service and they set up the sofabed for our 4 yr old daughter. The internet in the room worked well and they had English news channels. Unfortunately, we had to leave early next morning as we wanted to visit the hospice in Beaune and had a long drive ahead of us going back home. When we checked out, we were billed for breakfast even though we had not taken breakfast and for an extra bed for my daughter. Olivier had shown us the breakfast room, but we did not say we would take breakfast and we didn't know that we had to make a decision the day before. Therefore, make sure that this is clarified the day before. However, they took this out of our bill and this was rightly settled :) Also, we were charged for an extra bed, which i didnt understand as she slept in the sofa bed. Since the lady checking us out normally didn't work at the front desk, she charged our card, but said that the front desk staff would fix it if there was a mistake. I was quite certain that they would not even look at this. However, to my surprise, 2 days later Olivier called me and apologized for the mistake as they don't charge for a 4 yo in the room, so he credited back the amount into my credit card! Would definitely return to this chateau.
