Rude Staff at Breakfast
HkNoodleboyon 23/07/2016 05:55Buffet breakfast is served daily at the "Vigne" restaurant from 0700 to 1000. When they say that breakfast "closes at ten", THEY MEAN IT. We had small children to take care of in our group so we arrived at about 0945 intending to take our food before they cleared the dishes. The staff at the restaurant reception tried to stop us from entering! One waiter waved his arms rudely at us and said, "No, no, no, breakfast ends ten o'clock!"
I don't know what traumatic experience the waiter has had with the big tour groups that stay in the hotel but we were paying room guests, so I insisted that he let us in; we promised to eat quickly. We saw that the staff began clearing the food at 0955 and when I stood up to get a coffee refill at 1005 the same waiter gave me his "Ultraman" crossed arms gesture and said, "No! Breakfast closed!"
So they'd rather throw away food than let us consume it. I respect the hotel management's right to cease meal service at some point but I have never experienced such a strict and rude enforcement of the closing time anywhere else. We were just planning to take food that was already there. It was indeed an unpleasant shock especially in Japan where good customer service is expected.
We paid 44,500 yen per night (incl. breakfast) for a triple-occupancy room. Room was fairly large compared to the ryokans that we had stayed at in other parts of Hokkaido, but as some others have mentioned, the hotel looks old and dated. But they are kept very clean daily by the housekeeping staff.
For the price that we had paid, we did not expect the hotel to be a mass market property filled with tour groups. We were fooled by the pictures in the website and will NOT consider this hotel for our next trip to Sapporo, nor recommend it to friends.

If you like your room to be spacious and yet affordable, this is it. The room is huge by any standards. All amenities are there, including a 3-seater sofa and two single seaters. Cleanliness is tip-top, while mattress and pillows have the perfect firmness and support. However, as mine was facing the indoor complex, there is no view to speak of, and the window doesn't open.
There is an outdoor pool and a great onsen. However, the latter does not operate 24/7.
Its bathroom is something to behold. Separated into two areas, dry and wet. It even comes with an onsen-style wash area and an eye-level TV.
Meals (buffet spread) provided by the hotel are scrumptious. Great in every way.
Highly recommended.

iyoritoon 25/11/2015 03:02I wish they maintained the spa/pool area better. Real shame. The rooms were renovated and clean. They do not have room service and the restaurants close really early. Being middle of nowhere, it does not help. Can't beat the value though.
A fantastic hotel, especially for cake lovers
azrealhkon 03/09/2015 13:57A really clean and comfortable hotel. The staff we friendly and the rooms clean.
The only problem was that it was quite a distant from Sapporo, and there was not much in the surrounding area. To make up for this the hotel has a few level of shops and an annex section with spa and pool. As the name suggests, there are a few cake shops that sell really delicious cake.
A really nice hotel for the family. I would definately book this hotel again.
