What People are saying

Decent location but rooms are "tired"

ccw060609on 16/08/2017 02:20

We have stayed at this hotel 4 times in the last 2-3 years. The staff have always been very friendly and helpful. On this last visit, we asked for a mini-fridge to be delivered to our room, as we were traveling with our kids & their snacks, milk, etc. A mini-fridge was delivered by Engineering within 15 mins of us arriving in our room. Since my husband is Platinum with Marriott, we were given Concierge floor access. We enjoyed the delicious breakfast that they offered, and again, the staff working in there were very gracious.

Here are my 2 issues with the hotel:
- The rooms are starting to look, feel and smell (esp the bathrooms) a little "tired". I believe it's time for a face lift. The lobby is very nice, so it seems that it's been updated in recent years but the rooms havent.
- The location is good but not great. There is a Courtyard Marriott that is "deeper" into downtown and closer to more restaurants, Children's Museum, the pedestrian bridge, etc. If you are here on business, it's probably fine to stay at this hotel. If you're here with young kids like we were (ages 3 & 5), I'd stay at the Courtyard since it's closer to more of the kid-friendly attractions.

Marriott Downtown

The good: location is great. Staff are very nice, especially George. Room service was really good, as was breakfast buffet.

The bad: ATM was broken the entire time I was there. No way to get cash in hotel. They charged my personal card for the room on my Marriott profile even though I never gave them that card. They said it was just a pending charge but it is holding around $600 from me until it comes off.

Even though Gold member, no free bottled water in room. Was charged $4 per bottle.
My profile said foam pillows but all I had was feather ones. Concierge lounge closed on weekend. No free newspapers.

Still I would stay here again. The people made it worthwhile.

Not the grand hotel it used to be but not too bad either.

It had been a few years since I have stayed here. I remember many years ago when it was pretty high on my list and I always enjoyed the experience. Got the chance to come back again for a short stay and while everything is much the same it wasn't as great as I remembered it to be in spite of at least one remodel since my last stay.

This hotel used to have the best beds but that's not the case anymore. They are smaller and lower to the floor from what I remember but not uncomfortable by any means.

The bathrooms are among the smallest anywhere. Watch that the door doesn't knock the toilet seat off if it's down when you open the door. It misses the toilet bowl by a fraction of an inch and makes for some tight maneuvers to the shower/tub.

The rooms have been updated within the last 5 or so years and have the flexible reading lamps on the headboards and convenient plugs, no USB ports but that a pretty new thing we are just beginning to see in remodels.

Cable TV quality was not great in my room. Channels were pretty fuzzy but no big deal.

My main concern and caution is the air conditioning. While it's fairly quiet compared to most, it's old and doesn't work great. When the thermostat is set on 65° and the room is 85° that's good indication that you are going to be packing up your stuff and making a trip down to the front desk to exchange rooms. This room had afternoon sun and was quite warm and the AC was running but the discharge air was warm. My next room was on another floor and was identical to the first, the room was also on the sunny side of the building. Fortunately the AC was working better and the room was cooler. However, it didn't work great, just enough to keep me from packing up all my stuff again and heading back down to the front desk.

My only other complaint, and this is a recurring theme with so many hotels, the doors slam really loud and the don't seal well so you hear a lot of noise from the hallway, especially smelling doors and guests come and go. On the plus side, the floors are concrete and the walls are solid so you don't get a lot of other noise other than some street noise from the window but it's not bad.

It's a nice hotel in a good location, just not as grand as it used to be. It's not my first choice in the area as there are better options for the same price but its not that bad either.

first time to Chattanooga

Stayed at the Chattanooga Marriott Downtown for 3 days last week on business. The hotel was the conference site. Very nice property within easy distance of many attractions in Chattanooga. But the service was very questionable. My room was not completely cleaned, and the maid left a dust rag, and never cleaned out the ice keeper. I also had a very noisy neighbor (playing music in his room until 1am, and I called the front desk for help, and it took 4 phone calls for someone to answer at the front desk. (almost called the police due to the lack of response from the front desk personnel0. The banquet people on two separate occasions were surly, and showed obvious attitude when asked to wait a few minutes on tearing down a meeting room, and to serve the carving station at the reception until 5:30pm. Overall, not a good experience.

Great hotel.

Super friendly staff. Parking was difficult at times because the card reader at the front didn't work right all of the time. The room and bathroom was clean. The lobby was very nice and modern. An enjoyable stay.
