ask for a room with balcony

Unfortunatelly, terirble experience.
we trust the reviews on tripadvisor, also booked by last minute as we couldn't find too many other choices and now we regret because after only one night we had to leave.
We booked the only room available on site which they said is standard even on my voucher says classic beds, and didn't mention something about no balcony or window or seaview, however because we need only a clean and quite place to sleep we trust the general review score and buy it. But then reading the reviews carefully we get a litlle worry and we send a message to the hotel and ask for a balcony room with seaview just to be sure we will get at least a decent sleep. We didn't get any answer so decide it to call them instead as I was afraid about the mountain view 'cause other guests mention about it. So we talked with the hotel and get a deal on tel and upgrade the room to seaview and balcony for 70 extra euros which we agree. But at the arrival there was no upgrade available, instead get the information that need to wait two days until some guests will leave. Were surprised and worry for this misscomunication which I found it unacceptable as we use to respect our deals, but nothing to do just to accept the situation and take the standard room left.
Standard room for us means a decent comfort almost on limit, but this room it didn't offer at least a decent sleep, most because the insulation is completely missing which overheated the room and make it unbreatheable.
The hotel is OK if you get the right room and if you don't have too much expectations and able to accept a few compromises like standard, location, updating. But there is a huge diference between the rooms and we had the unluck to get one of the worst. Our room have a small window but only in the kitchen, bad insulation which make the room overheated, very noise as the window was in the back side of the hotel where there is a petrolstation which is "hyperakitve".
The worst was the heat as the hotel has no AC, was impossible to sleep even we get help with two big fans but still not much effect, we open the door, the small window, but no air! instead we get eye inflamation and headaches from the fans next morning. We ask desperatly for help and mention the deal they promise but then another surprise: they said there was no deal and no promises and they can't guaranty anything even if we wait two days.
I get very confused and also worry for our health, there is no chance to sleep in this standard rooms, and we ask to cancel and see if we can find another acomodation as for flights back home was no chance to find any at that time. Their policy was 100% cancel fee, now this make me curious: why you should punish families with children and destroy their holiday because they trust you and buy your rooms and didn't listen to their complain which I am sure they already know about it? Why should push this way and play with: "take the room and give it back" when you depend on customers reviews and your hotel is near to close down because in this shape as it is today there's no way to rent it in two years. It was a frustrating experience as we could see how big the diference it is between the rooms and the guests.

However if you decide for this hotel I will strongly recomanded to look first at what kind of room have you got on your voucher, have to be mentioned seaview or at least balcony otherwise you may find better places to live for the same value.

Brilliant quiet getaway

We wanted a cheap break in the summer without the kids. This hotel certainly over exceeded our expectations. The room was immaculately clean an a decent size. The staff are a credit to the hotel. Very helpful an always appear happy. Breakfast was a nice Buffett an well stocked. This is a basic no frills hotel an of older style of decoration but seems all the better for it. The pool was quiet an not the prettiest area an could do with new flooring an umbrellas. The bar an snack area was nice an food good an well priced. Hotel is in a lovely small town an perfectly placed on the seafront. Easy to catch the bus into Funchal an free mini bus from hotel in the week. Would visit again

Great value for money

Stayed 3 nights , the room had seaview , everything was as expected, rooms are not new but they are in a really good condition. They have shampoo and soap available, also tea and kettle in the room too. Location is good in Ribeira and in general this area is close to Funchal and other attractions on the island too , we did not have breakfast included but many cafes around.

about the pool I may say it is not great but I did not use it, many things to see in Madeira and there is a pool at the beach area for free, and there are only 2 parking spaces , very difficult to find them available , however parking in the street is free during the night , and during the day is easy to find a space somewhere else paying

Excellent accommodation all round

Holiday in Madeira

The staff at the hotel are absolutely superb but special mention must be given to reception staff, well done. They helped to change our booking to go on the pirate ship, we lost track of days, the holiday was that good. We upgraded our room to a sea view as the initial room overlooked a cliff just slightly taller than the hotel for a small cost of £40. The view was spectacular.
The hotel itself, although comfortable could do with a facelift especially the outside which is a little imposing and off putting not at all welcoming. The breakfast was excellent and plentiful. As we were half board we were asked to eat the evening meal at a restaurant 5 mins walk away up the beach.
