What People are saying

A very nice hotel to stay

H2183IAcatherinehon 17/08/2017 12:24

The room was big (which is rare in New York) and very clean. The staff was friendly and always ready to help. The location is perfect for people willing to visit the city or do some shopping. We enjoyed the garden. I would definitely recommend it.

great place

The hotel was very good. Staff was friendly and always ready to help. Breakfast was okay, definitely enough. The old movie themes of the rooms are very interesting if you like such things. Location is pretty good. Right next to Subway station (north-south and east-west directions). Very close to the Chelsea market and the Highline.
Only thing that was not entirely convenient but acceptable was the noise level of the air condition devices outside. (We had a room with window towards the back yard)
Absolutely would stay there again!

Great location, service

We enjoyed our recent stay and would definitely come again. The location was perfect - just close enough to all of the fun, yet far enough for a good night's sleep. The staff was friendly and responsive and the breakfast was much better than we expected. Our room was clean and the perfect size for three adults to maneuver around. We all agreed we would stay here again.

Nice B&B in a great location let down by staff and misinformation.

My wife & I travelled to New York with her parents for what was my mother-in-law's first ever trip to NYC. Having visited on 4 separate occasions, staying in a few different areas, we decided to have our first stay in the Chelsea Village/Meatpacking district. After reading a lot of (mostly) positive reviews, we plumped for two rooms at the Chelsea Pines Inn. We loved the idea of a family run place with real character and had no qualms about there being no lift.
The room was a decent size (for NYC), but really hot! The inn had an old heating system and the pipes clunked and hissed when it was on, which woke us up every night. We had to turn our radiator off and leave the window open (in December) to make the temperature more bearable.
The in-laws' safe didn't work and we reported it three times, but nothing was done. The guy who appeared to be the owner/manager was surprised to not have heard about it when we told him (our third time of reporting it). We thought that would mean it would be fixed, but still nothing was done.
The breakfast wasn't very exciting, but it served a purpose, if you could stand to sit in the heat of the breakfast room.
The issues that really annoyed us were when we checked out. Firstly, after mentioning the safe issue, we were greeted with a shrug & half-hearted apology. Anywhere else that I've stayed in America and had a complaint about has bent over backwards to make amends; usually in the form of vouchers/money off the bill. No such offer was forthcoming.
Then the real kicker was the misinformation from member of staff about getting to JFK. Since our first visit to NYC in 2008, the yellow cabs have charged a flat fee to & from JFK. The lady informed us that this was no longer the case when travelling to the airport (I really wished I'd googled it immediately) and that we would be on a metered fare on the way back. She, instead, offered to call us a car service that would be $110 including (INCLUDING (four people heard her say this word)) tolls, taxes & tip. We decided to go for that option as at least we'd know what we were paying. When we arrived at JFK the driver informed us that it was $110 plus tolls, taxes and tip. This pushed the total cost to $160!!! We were furious, but there was nothing we could do. I visited the NYC Taxi & Limousine Commission's website and, guess what, I found out it's still a set fare to & from JFK. Our taxi on the way in was $80, so thanks to the misinformation from the member of staff, we had just paid double what we needed to.
To make things worse, I tried to send an email to the manager complaining about this member of staff (the same one who had ignored the safe issue twice), but my email was intercepted by her. She replied saying that she hadn't said including (we all heard her say it) and that the NYC taxi policy changes from time to time (it never has in the 9 years we've been visiting). It almost felt like she had deliberately given us the wrong info.
Overall, these issues took the shine off what was an amazing Christmas holiday and I would advise caution if you're thinking of staying here.
