What People are saying

Rock-solid beds and no air-con, but otherwise a pleasent stay

My dad and I spent one night at Cheltenham Townhouse, while on our “Grand Tour of the UK”. We arrived fairly late, but were quickly checked in, and given some essential information. There is free parking right outside on the street – just remember to get a parking permit from the reception. The hotel itself was very well maintained, but nevertheless it is notably “old”. Our room was fairly spacious with twin beds and a bathroom with bath tub. The WiFi worked well and the room was immaculately clean. However; the beds were rock solid. We have both been travelling a lot, but we have never experienced beds like this. I mean; rock.solid. And with no air-condition, we would have appreciated the possibility of opening the window more than 5cm. We were at the top floor, and even with an outside temperature of 16 degrees, the room was soon way too warm. Apart from this we enjoyed our stay. The breakfast was good, and made to order. We recommend the full English breakfast (and the coffee was superb). The staff was all very helpful and accommodating; so if they just cracked open a window and changed the beds, we would definitely be back.

Lovely building well situated for town centre.

Having done some research I chose this hotel for the following reasons. Lovely building in a quite setting, good parking and well situated for the GWR and town centre .Reviews were good, price seemed to reflect facilities so a booking for 4 adults for 2 days followed. Not expensive for Cheltenham we were actually really pleased with our stay and impressed all round. Greeting was good, room/bathroom were really nice and clean - and breakfast was quickly served and tasty. Shower over bath a bit weak but I actually like a bath when away so happy days. Could have done without the dawn chorus from the seagulls that live in the park over the road - but hardly no road noise more than compensated. Would recommend.

Quite a find!

We stayed here for 1 night for an Anniversary treat & really liked it. The staff on reception were friendly and helpful. We arrived 3 hours ahead of check in time & were kindly given a permit to park at the front of the hotel so we could walk into Cheltenham which is an easy 5-10 minute walk.
Our room, a luxury room on the ground floor was lovely! Very spacious with high ceilings, an area with a sofa & coffee table, comfy bed & duvet. Bathroom was also spacious with a shower over a free standing bath. The shower could have done with being a bit more powerful for us!
Breakfast was good & nice choices but the cooked breakfast was served on cold plates! That's my only criticism....hot food should be served on hot plates!
Would definitely stay again.

Great location, pity about the room!!

The hotel is in a beautiful building which is ideally located for visiting Cheltenham itself as it is only a two minute walk to the town centre. Parking is good and a great breakfast is served daily.
BUT in our case this is where the niceties stop. Our room en suite room was situated on the first floor. The room itself was adequate but the bathroom was very dated and continually smelt of blocked drains and sewage.
When we informed the manager he told us that he was well aware of this and that they had been having problems for over a week.
IF he knew this why was the room even let out? A hotel of any standing would have shut the room off , put the visitor into another room, possibly even upgraded them and at the very least apologised .Possibly even discounted the bill as a gesture of good will. Sadly none of these happened in our case.

Nice welcome and a good size room with a good bed and en-suite. Good breakfast with a choice of hot food served and fruit, cereals and juices to help yourself. Longe for residents with an honesty bar at very reasonable prices. 10 minutes walk from town centre and 5 minutes walk from Pittville Park. Some space in car park and permits for free parking in front of the hotel. Quiet, typical Cheltenham, Georgian cul-de-sac with ornate gates closing one end but giving pedestrian access towards town centre.
