Wonderful Stay
wildrose3on 09/08/2017 13:18This was our first time visiting Bar Harbor and we couldn't have been happier with our 3 night stay at the Chiltern Inn. We arrived a few hours ahead of check-in and decided to see if our room might be ready early. We arrived at the beautiful carriage house and were greeted by Dan Mill's (he and his wife Joan own and run the inn). Dan was very happy to show us around the beautiful inn, and allowed us into our room. He gave a lot of helpful tips and recommendations on how to make the most of our short stay in the area.
We stayed in the Marble room, decorated with beautiful antique furniture, clean and comfortable bedding, and a beautiful bathroom. We enjoyed the wine and cheese on our breaks back at the inn between a busy day in Acadia and a night on the town. Breakfast in the dining room was always a treat and a great way to start the day, visiting with some of the other guests and having Dan on hand to talk about everyone's previous day and what we all had planned for the day ahead of us.
I can't say enough about what a beautiful home this is. It had a very cozy fell, beautiful artwork along side family photos.
Although we visited during the height of tourist season, we were always able to find parking in downtown Bar Harbor. It was peace of mind to know that if we were unable to find a spot, we were only a short walk from the inn. We loved Bar Harbor and plan to return again. We will definitely look for openings at the Chiltern Inn.
Pleasant stay
PhillyCheeseSteak403on 26/07/2017 01:40Chiltern is a charming 5 room inn on the out skirts of Bar Harbor - probably 15-20 minute walk to the built up water front.
Breakfast was served from 8-9 am and the owner chatted providing his insights on the area. Wine and cheese was served in the evenings. We especially enjoyed the owner playing the piano and singing during our stay.
The room was comfortable and had a private bath. More towel bars/ door hooks in the bathroom would have kept us from hanging towels over the doors.
All in all a nice stay!
Fantastic
David Gon 16/07/2017 02:02Stayed for an incredible weekend of hiking and dining in beautiful Acadia / Bar Harbor. The Inn is gorgeous, with few rooms but a really intimate feel and real attention to detail by the fabulous hosts Dan and Joan. From the wine and cheese in the afternoons to the incredible breakfasts each day (included) to the indoor pool & spa to the movie theater there are so many reasons to love this place. Also Dan gave us all the tips on where the best hiking spots are, and the less traveled paths, not to mention restaurant reccos as well. Highly recommended – we will definitely be back.
Consummate Experience!!
Mark Bon 03/07/2017 22:56Words are insufficient to express our satisfaction with our four night experience at Dan & Joan Mills'Chiltern Inn in Bar Harbor. The location was perfect! Close to town but in a peaceful, secluded setting. My wife & I sat outside in the garden, drinking champagne a couple of nights. Dan, the owner, joined us one night and we chatted just like family! Marvelous! The inn is a wonderfully restored old carriage house with warmth and an ambience from a bygone era. At happy hour the inn provided wine and cheese while Dan played the piano and sang. He is a very accomplished musician, one more enjoyable experience! The breakfasts were all homemade and exceptionally delicious! Dan provided us with tips for hikes, places of interest, dining, etc, all derived from a lifetime in the area. The Chiltern Inn FAR exceeded our expectations!! We will return!!
Wonderful Inn!
twodogladyon 03/07/2017 21:18I can't say enough about this luxurious B & B. Wine and cheese in the evening. Fabulous owners. Delicious breakfast. The yellow room has a fireplace, jacuzzi, and very comfortable king sized bed. There is an indoor pool and spa on the lower level. I arrived in the late afternoon to find Dan playing the piano--wonderfully. I have been to Mount Desert Island about twenty times over 40 years yet Dan pointed out a few spots that I had missed in the past. I had stayed in many nice inns in both Bar Harbor and the quiet side of the island. This is the nicest.
