Ground floor rooms overlook our pretty garden, whilst those on the first and third floors have stunning, far-reaching forest and mountain views. The relaxed, friendly ambience together with high quality food has made our open air roof top caf very popular. We serve a mixture of homemade Italian, Middle Eastern and continental dishes, including pizzas, pasta, quiches, salads, cakes, bread, and desserts. What People are saying

Stay here!

Luke Won 15/08/2017 08:43

A really relaxed and friendly stay. Rooms are clean, spacious with wall murals and our room had great views. We stayed on the 3rd floor, which meant our balcony looked out into the tree canopy, perfect for watching monkeys and other wildlife.

Adel, is a really kind and warm host. We felt really welcome by all staff who seem genuinely happy to work there as a big family. There is a beautiful yoga room, you can use anytime and in peak season they have a resident yoga teacher. They are currently building a roof top pool, due to open in September 2017. We really enjoyed our stay here.

Kumily is a great location to explore Periyar national park, see traditional dancing, go for waterfall walks, and have Ayurvedic treatments. Adal and all staff are really knowledgable about the area and can advise/arrange anything you need. A visit to the local organic spice garden was one of the best and cheapest things we did. Stay overnight in the national park if you have time and want to see most wildlife.

Lovely!

Stayed for three nights and loved the experience. The owners are very welcoming and the staff are approachable, nice and informative. The food there in the off season is limited to early-ordering, but that is understandable and good compared to most places which are closed. We ate breakfast there and it was the best we have had in India! Monkeys did steal my iPhone (my fault for leaving it out on the balcony) but one of the staff found it and got it back in one piece! The rooms are nice and the setting peaceful. This hotel has everything a backpacker could want! By the way, the yoga teacher is good as well!

Cozy , comfortable and rustic stay at Chrissies

Had a comfortable and relaxing stay at this cute hotel perfect for being away from the regular hustle of city life. It has a perfect yoga room for yoga lovers , humble staff(The owner and his girlfriend are sweethearts) and comfortable rooms surrounded by jungle from the back side.
Would love to revisit!

A lovely Stay and Experience

Chrissies Hotel in Kumily is centrally located without appearing to be so. While a seven minute walk from the Bus Stop, it appears to be within a forest. The residential block is three storeys (stairs, and there are a couple of steps to climb to reach that. Inspite of my knee problem, I was able to move around freely, and we took our room on the third floor which has lovely Yoga Hall, with level wooden flooring, well cross-ventilated and with bright happy-colourful walls. Ideal for our daily practice.

The Restaurant was closed being Off-Season, but earlier reviews suggest it to be top choice in Kumily. However there is a limited menu where you can pre-order meals with a three hour notice.

My gratitude to Adel and Ulli for making delicious, wholesome and sumptuous vegetable soups for us every evening, served with homemade bread ! We chose this as our daily dinner, awaking each morning, fresh and ready for the day ahead.

My partner has fallen sick, and Adel took special care in ensuring we went to the best hospital in Kumily with a trusted auto driver. He kept enquiring after her health, and made sure she got what she wanted to get well and be comfortable, and she did get well overnight ! Thank you Adel and Ulli, you are Stars !!

Each room has a private balcony, where you can enjoy Green Kerala and warm sunlight. The only draw-back to us city-folks are the monkeys. This must be a problem for all hotels in Kumily/Periyar, after all this is a Wildlife Sanctuary, and this is what draws us here.

We were asked to keep our room locked when not in as monkeys could come in and make a mess and carry off stuff in our absence. However this spoiled the fun of sitting on the balcony as we had to constantly on the look out for monkeys. One monkey-fellow coolly sauntered across balconies onto ours, grabbed my candied-ginger, snarled and showed me his teeth as if to warn me from attempting to take it back, and then leisurely ate from the back on the next balcony. We had intended to extend our stay, but it would not have been fun keeping a Monkey-Watch all the time, catapult in hand. For the record, the monkeys do not attack unprovoked, and are otherwise harmless and fun to watch. However if you plan to chill on the balcony with a snack or perhaps your smart phone (free good speed Wi Fi), there can be no guarantees a monkey will not come and snatch your stuff. It would be great for folks like us, if some of the rooms had a wire-mesh securing the balcony.

For us Chrissies is a great place to stay. The team there, including Arshad are professional yet so friendly. They gave us great recommendations for dining, including the Dosa place with 100 types of Dosa, including a 6 foot dosa (season only), as well as chicken and other non-veg ! They will arrange autos, cabs, sight-seeing and travel. The Kalari and Kathakali demonstrations are a must-see.

Great Peaceful Stay!

I was travelling solo around Kerala alone and when it came to Thekkady... Chrisse's Hotel really stole the show. The staff at the front counter was so friendly. The rooms were clean, quiet and peaceful. I was warned about the monkeys.. But they didn't disturb me. Living in the wilderness couldn't get any better. The room was very affordable and I only stayed for 1 night as I was travelling around pretty much. Only thing was, it could have a TV installed in the room. It would have better. But I love the whole overall look and feel of room and hotel. It looked as amazing as in the pictures seen. I would recommend this to anyone. Would visit once again when I come to Thekkady.
