    What People are saying

    AVOID! AVOID!! AVOID!!!

    SFOReed on 01/10/2017 08:53

This is hands down the absolute WORST hotel I have ever stayed in, & I travel the world for work.
This is going to be long, & for good reason. Nobody would believe all of this happened in one room in one hotel. I could only upload 10 pics.
My friend & I did not expect a 5 star hotel for the price we paid, & I've stayed in less expensive hotels in London that were better than this!!
We arrived early, & were fully aware of the 2pm check-in. We asked if by chance our rooms were ready, & we were willing to pay extra should that be necessary.
It was my birthday weekend & we had plans to go to Stonehenge.
The gentleman at the front desk had housekeeping check, & the previous guests had indeed left. We were advised to return at 12pm to give housekeeping time to clean. Perfect!
We came back at 12:30 & a different man was at the desk. I am pretty sure he is the owner. We explained our situation & that we were offered our rooms early at 12pm. He argued and yelled at us that "EVERYONE knows check-in is 2pm!" We just wanted to change clothes that we'd been in for the past 18 hours.
He allowed us into the room at around 1pm.
THIS is where things got (literally) ugly!!!
And yes, I have the pictures to prove it.
It's really 2 buildings that make the one hotel. (2 sets of elevators, etc.)
Upon exiting the elevator on my floor, the maid's stuff was blocking the exit. So much so I couldn't lift my suitcase over her clutter.
The rooms were old, & I was expecting that, so not a big deal.
The light outside the room was burned out, & I had to use my phone to see where to place the key. The walls hadn't been painted in years. Dings & dents & scratches & marks were along every wall.
The door didn't have a peep hole, and it was missing the chain part of the lock.
The emergency instructions are placed on the door, but the number to call in case of an emergency was blank. That however didn't matter, because the phone didn't work. I couldn't even call the front desk or my friend's room.
The shower was moldy, & the shower door was broken. There wasn't a place to hang the towel once used. The vanity light above the sink didn't work.
I had no intention of watching TV, but was shocked it was about 12"!
The bedside lampshade was broken & stained on one side, cracked on another side, but neither mattered because THERE WASNT A LIGHTBULB!!!
The veneer was cracking off of the bedside table.
There was trash on the floor next to the bed.
The air vents are clogged with dust.
The blackout drapes they advertise are too small for the windows & therefore do not close completely. They also had paint on them.
The beds are hard & you can feel the springs. They've seen better days.
The blanket was stained & I'm not sure from what.
They give you an old school key, which is fine, except the key ring not only has the name of the hotel, the address, the phone number, but on the back IS YOUR ROOM NUMBER!! Wouldn't it be great if you accidentally dropped the key ring, only to return to the hotel to see everything you brought stolen.
The free wifi the advertise was so terrible. The fastest I had was 0.85Mbps.
They'd mopped the floor near the lobby without placing a sign & I didn't realize it was wet. I nearly slipped.
The icing on the cake was there is CONSTRUCTION right next door. Like, on the other side of the wall. At 6:00am! On a Saturday!!!!
The next morning (my birthday), I spoke to the owner & showed him pictures of the room. I wanted to give him another opportunity to make good on his hotel's promise of a good stay.
I was offered ONE other available room that was in the same building against the SAME WALL next to the construction!
I left my friend & this crappy hotel in tears & went to another hotel. I advised the front desk owner that I would be doing this.
I've NEVER had such a bad experience at a hotel that I actually had to walk. NEVER!
The location may be nice, but PLEASE look at other hotels close by in the same price range. DO NOT STAY AT CHRYSOS, because it'll be a crisis.

    Good Price, Good Location

We are from the USA. We stayed for 6 days in Sept 2017. Price with $136 a night American money included tax ect. Room had two twin beds, bathroom with shower, a cabinet to hang and store your clothes, and a dresser with a mirror and three drawers for clothes. TV on wall about a 27 inch.

The good was it was very clean, did not smell. We had a small balcony that looked over the park and the road, you could open to get fresh air. The temp in Sept was 55 degrees in the day. At night it went down to 40 and there is heat in the room. When you get there ask for a EXTRA pillow and blanket in case you get cold at night. The beds are kind of hard but passable. The pillows are flat so you will need two. Also ask for the hair dryer it is a normal hair dryer and works good. I have long hair and had no issues. The shower is hot and the water pressure is GREAT.!! We were on the second floor NUMBER 15. I would bring a bathroom organizer to hang on the door to put you toothpaste, hair stuff, meds, ect. The sink is a vanity type and there is not a cabinet top. The room itself was 17 X 15 with a space to store your luggage. The hotel will store your luggage in the lobby for the first day for free, just drop and go. It will not be placed in a room just the lobby but the lobby is small and the guy will watch it. Breakfast was passable, eggs, toast, jelly, cheese, beans, sausage, ham, 4 types of cereal, milk, apple juice, orange juice, tea and coffee, the coffee is not brewed it is Instance coffee. The eggs are over easy but you can ask to have them scrambled. The girls are nice and the area clean. There are restaurants and convenient stores about a 2 min walk, where you can get fresh fruit, beer, sandwiches, candy, gum. These stores came in handy. Check yelp for ratings of the food. Paddington Station for the tube and train are only a 5 min walk away.
The Bad was: the beds, not that great, some noise on Fri and Sat night coming from the bar up the road, one of the clerks would smoke out front and it would float up to my room. Other than that I liked it and would stay again. It was a quite area and had everything you needed right out your door, food, stores for gifts, the tube, the train, Hyde park.

    Good value for money

Reception clerk Nicholas was especially welcoming and the staff in the dining room are pleasant and courteous , the location is very close to Paddington Station, walking distance to Lancaster Gate Station and lots of bus stops to various locations in the city. Lots of restaurants around, a green park opposite the hotel, a quiet environment. Breakfast was Fair but monotonous
The room was relatively small and we were moved to a triple room that was more spacious and improved the quality of stay in the hotel. The rooms are outdated. The flow of water on the upper floors is weak and the internet is weak
On our next visit to London we will go back there again

    Disappointing

    dianahancox on 31/08/2017 15:19

I think this is the first time I have really not been happy with a hotel. I booked a single room which was ok but tired, the ensuite shower was ridiculously small. I didn't take a shower until the morning but was disgusted at the state of the shower. Furthermore, there was no hairdryer in room as stated and I had to go down to reception to ask for one. Room was stuffy (and the window had been left open before I arrived!)
Breakfast was edible but not great (though the young girls serving were very sweet).
Location was great (why I chose hotel) but though staff weren't unfriendly they were also not particularly friendly or helpful either.
Won't stay here again. First time I have also stayed in a hotel that doesn't have a smoke alarm in the room too.

    Go somewhere else!

    Pros:
    1. Cheap
    2. Has a park across the street
    3. Breakfast was simple and plated (not Buffet)
    4. Has nearby convenient store and burger king.
    Cons:
    1. No Aircondition
    2. Had 2 pieces of dried human feces on the balcony which is our only source of breeze.
    3. Very slow and small elevator
    4. Very old
    5. Have to go though 1 door to get to 2 separate rooms
    6. The room I had, had a platform upon exiting the room.
    7. The guy on the front desk was not friendly. didn't even help out with our luggage.
    8. Can't say that it's clean in general.
