When you have forgotten other hotels you will still remember Beaujeu

Had a wonderful, unforgettable stay at Beaujeu, where we stayed for two nights. We were met with very great hospitality despite very busy days.
If you love old castles it is fantastic to stay here. You can almost imagine how it was to live here in the 19th century. All the rooms are restored in respect to its origion and filled with old items from previous generations.
We had a dinner the last evening with deliciuos french food and very good local wine.
The castle is located in a very beatiful and peaceful landscape.

Wonderful hosts in wonderful chateau!

We loved this place. I have stayed all over Europe and would stay here again in a heartbeat. When we arrived we saw the grandchildren playing around the dovecote. We were soon greeted by the rest of the family. It felt really warm and welcoming. The chateau is just what you would expect, old and glorious. If you want modern then this is not for you, but if charm and peacefulness is what you seek, this is it. Much better than staying with all of the tourists in Sancerre proper. We found the hosts very accommodating and the area sublime.

Spectacular and Unique

This is truly a unique place, as other reviews indicate: one can sense the history (dating to 1566) in the walls. If one wants the chateau vibe but with modern amenities​, this is not the place for you. The rooms are not updated, the wifi is spotty, and the petit dejeuner and service Spartan. In addition, there is little communal space for hanging out, and the vast chateau is likely quite cold in winter. However, if charm, authenticity, spectacular location and grounds, and a real country French experience is what you seek, this is wonderful and very unique choice​.

We only stayed one night as part of a cycle trip along the Loire, but this place was the absolute highlight.
Staying here is like staying in a museum! The rooms are beautiful and every feature is retained or restored as it must have been 100 years ago or more. Except that the bathrooms have been tastefully renovated and there are new, very comfy beds. The rooms are spotlessly clean.

What makes this place so special is the owners, who welcome you like you are friends, not just hotel guests. We had dinner at the chateau and some fantastic Sancerre wine, both of which I highly recommend!

Make sure you have time to go for a walk around the grounds and take it all in. This is a very special place!

While enjoying a wine and cheese tasting tour of the Sancerre environs, my wife and I found a 500 year old, minimally restored family run Chateau. Our bedroom in a turret and breakfast at a table that could seat 30, just couldn't have been better. Our hosts were warm and made us feel truly at home.
