Heaven on earth - the perfect Chateau experience
gertbruggeon 08/08/2017 10:49No country in the world that has so many chateau-hotels. Most chateaux are not really worthy of the name however. Mirambeau is certainly one of the exceptions. Everything is perfect. The welcome, the valet parking service, the freshly baked Madeleines and the glass of water that is offered on arrival. Very attentive... Beautiful rooms, completely 'd'époque' restored. Nice swimming pool, agreeable spa. Perfect dinner. Excellent and attentive service throughout our stay. Definitely worth every penny !! We will certainly be back.
Heaven
Merrelyn Ton 08/08/2017 08:50Chateau de Mirambeau is, simply put - heaven.
The staff are excellently trained and speak several languages. There is always someone around to assist and they do so with a good attitude. Their restaurant staff have excellent knowledge of their menu and their sommelier is very helpful if you need assistance choosing from the extensive wine menu, or with trying cognac for the first time (like me - and it's divine!). Concierge and reception are very knowledgeable about the surrounding area and will happily take the time to help you plan your day. Nothing seems to be any trouble and they provide this service without it feeling like subservience, which always makes me feel icky.
The rooms are luxurious and well appointed - except for the noticeable lack of coffee and tea making facilities. Our party (myself and my parents) had a superior room and a junior suite. I highly recommend the Junior Suite if you have an arrangement like ours (close friends/family) as it gives you a private space where you can gather to spend quiet time together, or enjoy a wine in the afternoon etc. Fair warning - you are in France, and you may not have an actual shower in your room. My room had the typical handheld shower hose in bathtub arrangement. I find this arrangement damn near impossible to shower effectively in so I had my daily shower in my parents' room up the hall. Their Junior Suite had a lovely rain shower with very good pressure. Beds and pillows are very good, which is a refreshing change as I'm tired of going to good hotels that give you those useless feather pillows that dissolve into a pancake five minutes after laying your head on them. I have a bad neck and slept like a baby. The turn-down service is excellent as you come home after dinner and your room is wrapped up snug like the proverbial bug, heavy drapes pulled over the curtains to ensure you sleep for as long as possible without Mr Sun waking you up.
The grounds are certainly beautiful but their gardener needs some help - I had to restrain myself from doing some weeding in the garden beds at the back of the chateau. The spa is gorgeous - I highly recommend you get down there and enjoy a hot tub or sauna, or treatment. I had treatments on two different days - my first was an hour massage which was exceptional. My second was a combination body scrub and hour massage which was also very good. I felt so blissed out I was a bit useless afterwards so simply collapsed in my room and enjoyed the beauty of the gardens out of my windows.
In short - I would happily stay here again. It is not "close" to Bordeaux, but honestly that is part of its charm. The village is quite small but does have a giant superU so you can buy anything you need there. The region is filled with interesting little villages and plenty of history to visit.
We are leaving tomorrow, and after a week of staying here I have to say I'm a bit sad and not quite ready to go.
Really the only "complaints" I have is the lack of tea & coffee making facilities in the rooms, and that the restaurant menu doesn't change, so if you're going to stay for a week like we did, it might be wise to investigate somewhere else to eat dinner occasionally, only so you have some variety in your menu. Having said that, the food is *exceptional*, so eating here is a pleasure.
Leisure
Christophe Bon 26/07/2017 10:55A great place , very impressive building and garden with all the facilities- ( spa , swimming pool, tennis court ) - very confortable rooms - restaurant is great - special mention for the head sommelier who get us 2 fantastic magnum of wines which none of us heard about and which were outstanding, plus , laurent , did not choose the most expensive wines , he just adapted it to the crowd- a very enjoyable moment , thanks to him ! The only regret is :
1/ The selection at the cognac room is too narrowed ( it would be nice to have more brands )
2/ in the rooms , no wine & spirit list
Overall , a great place , I would recommend you to stay there !

Janet Bon 03/07/2017 21:57We visited the chateau quite by chance when looking for an overnight stop. Now we wish that we had been able to stay longer and we are working out when we can return
When I phoned to book I was treated with such kindness and this continued as soon as we arrived . The front door opened miraculously and help was immediately
available. We were shown into an exquisite lounge and offered iced tea and home made madeleines whilst we registered. The decor was totally to my taste and complemented the surroundings perfectly. We were then shown to our lovely room which again was beautifully decorated. We looked at the Spa but sadly had no time to use it.
Dinner in the conservatory was a delight and we slept well in a very comfortable bed. There was a superb buffet for breakfast and sadly we then had to conti ue on our journey. There are many memories that we will cherish but most of all the fact that everybody was so friendly and so helpful in one of the most beautiful hotels we have ever visited.
