Gorgeous
Panski50on 05/09/2016 18:43We had just one night here and it was totally relaxing. This was the beginning of September and there was only one other guest apart from us! Despite travelling with our dog, we were given a free upgrade to a junior suite, in one of the turrets, with the most fabulous view. Lots of easy walks from the hotel, andoverlooking a golf course if that;s your thing. Good sized outdoor pool. All staff were friendly, the room was clean, comfortable and quiet and well-equipped. Buffet breakfast was sumptuous but the evening meal was a little disappointing. Good wifi.
Beautiful Chateau with very friendly staff
ib100568on 30/05/2016 19:01We had only planned to stay for one night but the place is so beautiful we stayed for the whole weekend. The Chateau is beautiful and our room was charming with a great view of the countryside. The owner and staff were very friendly and made us very welcome.
More and more run down - still a great site though!
Wishyouwerehere_xxon 08/08/2014 12:28We have been coming here for the past 4 years and each year, the facilities and food are more and more disappointing. We come back because of the proximity to the golf course (a stone's throw away!) but now decide to always eat outside of the hotel, which has enabled us to discover a much better representation of the local cuisine! The hotel staff are generally friendly, the rooms are comfortable though could do with a lick of paint and some bathroom refurbishment. This year, the poolside bar was closed, the gym is very run down and the tennis court seems left to abandon. Breakfast is ok, but staff always seem harrassed despite a low number of guests in the room. I think with some refurbishment in rooms and facilities, plus an upgrade for the restaurant, this hotel could really attract more customers. A pleasant stay, good value for money, but not what we consider a 4* hotel.
Friendly but not as good as it could be
Molepololeon 29/06/2014 14:33My wife and I stayed for two nights. We wanted to have a look around Aurillac and spend a day up in the Monts du Cantal. We managed to do both. The former was a disappointment, despite it being market day; the place looks and feels run down. The area around Salers, up towards the Puy de Mary, by contrast was delightful, as was Salers itself - great views, lots of wild flowers and plenty of handsome Salers cattle. Only 45 minutes drive from the hotel.
As previous reviews mentioned, the staff in the hotel are indeed very friendly. And it is in a great location with views to the mountains up the valley of the Cere. But the place itself needs loving up. The swimming pool is fine but the surrounding paving has several holes where the cement grouting between the stones has been broken or washed away. Wear flip-flops or sandals to avoid walking barefoot on sharp grit. We couldn't work out how the jacuzzi worked and were not prepared to wait at least 15 minutes for the hammam to heat up. Quite a lot of the indoor decor looks a bit tired too.
The service, whilst friendly, was a trifle amateurish. The store for towels for the swimming pool was empty of towels by late-afternoon. Nobody thought to restock it on either day we were there. Breakfast is help-yourself, which only works if food and drink are always available - the bread ran out on both days and it took a long time before more arrived.
There is wifi but the login and password we were given only worked in our room and had to be reentered every time we returned to the room or let more than an hour go by without using the net!
The one really good thing about the place was the quality of the food at dinner. Our entrees and plats on both evenings were delicious and good value (the desserts less so but that it usually the case in France). The food at breakfast was pretty ordinary. Is it possible anywhere in French hotels/restaurants to get coffee and tea made with freshly-boiled water?
This hotel has the potential to be a really good one but it can only be so with better management and some investment.
Peacefull place on top of volcano
maybefranceon 26/08/2013 16:23The first word rising in mind is authenticity! The view on the Auvergne volcano is exeptional ! and the food in restaurant is "Auvergne typical" , we appreciated the "tripoux" served with an excellent local wine from St Pourcain. The rooms are clean and confortable, exepted , may be for the day light which is invited in the room early in summer and push you to an super breakfast with everything needed.
Good point are also the jacuzzi , the fitness room, the hammam as well the swimming pool.
Other point is you are a golfer 18 hole are waiting for you at a walking distance.
On the negative side is the abscence of WiFi in room but for us this was not a pb, no need!!
