We want to go back
kellaharrion 22/12/2016 15:42This is one of the most beautiful bed and breakfasts you could imagine. The house is beautifully restored, the bathroom has all the modern conveniences however the lovely furnishings keep the antique feel of days-gone-by.
The rooms do not have televisions (ours did not anyway, there was a television in a communal room on the ground floor) however you will not want to watch television while you are here. There were many outdoor settings placed around the gardens so it gives you a welcoming feel to go out and just enjoy the ambiance. The view from the many outdoor areas will keep you calm and relaxed for days. You may even feel inspired to write a book in the tranquil setting, it has that feel about the place. Plus there are many wonderful sights in the area including the beautiful village Semur-en-Auxois, about a 20-minute drive away.
The breakfast was fantastic, it looked like a standard continental breakfast but the food was amazingly fresh. It is hard to describe how good a simple baguette tasted.
The only negative, is given more as advice for future travellers, Les Roches is a little hard to find if you're travelling without a GPS as we were. Despite Mont-Saint-Jean being a very, very tiny village, the Les Roches sign was quite easy to miss. From the main street (Grande Rue ) in the village, you need to turn at Medieval restaurant in the centre of town.
Nice, but not stunning
David270on 06/12/2016 17:05We stayed enroute from the south of France back to the UK via Calais, and it was nicely off the obvious south-north route in pretty countryside.
We had a super big room on the first floor at the front, with enormous windows looking across the garden to the valley and fields across the quiet road to Mont St Jean. The bathroom was moderate-sized and had what was needed.
It's a cross between a B&B and a hotel, in that it has a restaurant serving evening meals, not just breakfasts. And upstairs, in what was probably once a loo, there was a kettle and fridge making it possible to make a tea of coffee. Supper was by no means bad, but I felt it promised a bit more than it delivered.
Elegant passion
umurcanon 03/11/2016 22:46Established in an extraordinarily quite medieval village, Mont Saint Jean, this exquisite boutique hotel is a gem for anyone who wants to get rid of the crowds for sometime, enjoy Burgundy wines, excellent French dinner prepared by co-owner chef Marco Stockmeier and beauty of the natural panorama from the elegant terrace or windows of this chateaux. The rooms are decorated with a superb taste, the fireplace in the lobby room is always fed with wood by the other co-owner Tobias Yang who also helps for selection of the wine. You would easily notice the passion and very personalized touch of Tobias & Marco all over in every detail, even equally so in the garden. I cannot imagine how much effort they must have been putting to keep things working so perfectly on their own. I could not recommend this place more.
Tranquil and beautiful a must to visit
GTRXU11972on 05/10/2016 09:11On reading reviews from previous guests we booked 2 rooms and were not disappointed in any shape or form .The whole atmosphere was exceptional and staff made us all welcome .
Evening Meals at the Les Roches were something to die for and the breakfast was truly more than what you expect in France .
Wines on hand meet our expectations a must to visit again
Thanks for having us
very average, 3 stars at bestthe manager is not very trustworthy
Chris Kon 23/09/2016 01:31At best average, cleanliness was average. The room was ok, but on a mild day was stuffy, no air conditioning. The breakfast was average to poor when compared with comparable accomodation. The manager was not particularly helpful or friendly, just went through the motions. We had a voucher which was ignored stating we still had to pay, I doubt whether our tour organisers will ever use Les Roches again. Not much in the town to do drove 18 kms to a town nearby with restaurants and bars, brilliant food in a local accomodation hotel. It was the worst experience of the hundreds of hotels and B&Bs we have stayed in. Could not recommend it at all.
