Simple and efficient
Mar Fon 08/05/2017 11:58If you need a hotel near the zoo and simple and efficient this is the place. If you have a manual wheel chair probably is fine, but not a electrical one! I didn't get the breakfast because I choose to go to some bakeries near by.
Cold as ice
Remy Mon 05/12/2016 08:42The stay at Hotel Mercator was indeed not that bad - the price was relatively low and the staff was friendly. The only thing is - the staff is serviceminded and friendly in most places and you can also find other low-priced places to stay (in Frankfurt).
When I came up to my room on the 2nd floor, it was very, very cold. For some reason, two of the three windows on the room was left open - on a November night with 3 degrees celsius outside. It's not a problem, really, if you can heat up the room, but you really couldn't (from what I could see).
The Wifi-reception on this hotel was also not of top standard and couldn't be relied upon. The day after, I received great service when they called me a cab that arrived only a few minutes later. You can stay here for maybe one night, but I would recommend looking elsewhere if you're staying longer.
Did not get the chance to check out the breakfast.

vanityfullon 12/06/2016 15:27Friendly staff, clean spacious room, very easy to find. Great value for money paid! It looks a bit meh from the outside, so I was expecting the same inside - was wrong^^ Simple but nice interior. You should book your parking space in advance though, the hotel has it's own private parking. If you prefer to park on the street - not easy to find a spot, especially if you check in in the evening.
Bad experience
Jonathan Lon 12/05/2016 09:26The two staff people who man the front desk are very polite and helpful. All the rest is atrocious. The rooms are old and shabby. Old furniture and curtains. Absolutely depressing. Across the road is a lovely boutique hotel Villa Orange charging the same. But Mercator would not release my booking so I suffered to the end.
Dirty uncomfortable room, rude staff
sherryl154on 01/05/2016 21:54The first room we were offered was dirty and had two single beds - not what we'd booked. Plus we were asked to pay €195 in advance - not the €175 that booking.com had offered. Man at reception was very helpful. Offered us another room. Exhausted, we took it. Bed was like a kit bed, no proper pillows and just two thin single duvets on a double bed. Mould in the bathroom, no plug in the basin (lost a toothbrush and a Tee Pee toothpick down the drain). Taps on shower didn't turn at all and water stuck on hot. Very noisy room. Bed very uncomfortable for me as I have a bad back. At 3am, during a sleepless night, I booked another hotel and we left in the morning.
We lost all 3 days charge. Woman on reception in the morning offered no apology. She simply said that I wasn't allowed to leave! And that I would have to return on the check out day after check out time to leave properly. Impossible as we would be on a plane by then. At no point did she apologise or try to fix the problem. The hotel has every right to keep all 3 days charge as I booked 3 days and then walked out. But a good hotel that cared about its reputation would have either tried to fix the situation or offered a reduced fee.
To be scrupulously fair, we knew another family in the hotel and their room was OK. They had a modern shower that worked and the room was clean. Just avoid Room 305.
The hotel is cheap and you get what you pay for.
