What People are saying
Unwelcoming and rude!!
isabelle421115on 22/04/2017 15:17The workers at the front desk were rude, impolite and would not speak to us!! When we went to the buffet for dinner we were refused service because we had not made a reservation ahead of time (prior to the time we arrived at the hotel) even when there were 20+ open tables and no more pending reservations. The staff is unfriendly and has no respect for its customers. Me and my family will not be coming back.
Stay at Novotel instead - Don't get ripped off here!
maodohsiaoon 13/04/2017 06:00I frequently have to stop over in Taipei due to flight schedules and usually, I stay at Novotel (which is actually even closer to the airport). This time, I booked too late and Novotel was fully booked. I had no choice but to stay at City Suites Gateway. What a disappointment.
Taxi back to the airport: They TOTALLY ripped you off. It's not a lot of money but it's a matter of principle. Whenever I stayed at Novotel, it was always by the meter and the taxi driver will deliver you to the proper drop off place. For this place, they asked us to pay a flat rate of $200 NT to the taxi driver - not negotiable (which is about 40% more than Novotel). When I asked the staff, he said "well, that's just the way it is". When I said Novotel doesn't do it, he said "well, that's just the way it is". We didn't have a choice. The taxi that the hotel arranged sped his way to the airport, weaving between cars, and then he dumped us at the side entrance. We asked if he can drop us off at the proper entrance where it's closer to the check in counter, he said no.
Room: Not dirty, but it definitely does not feel clean the way Novotel rooms do
Noise: When I checked in, they told me that my room was on the top floor. I thought "oh, that's great". Turned out, it was a disaster. It was SOOOOOOO LOUD. I asked the front desk and they said "oh, that's the sound of central AC". It literally sounded like someone was drilling a hole in the wall. I asked to change room, and said that I don't mind a downgrade to a smaller room if it means I can get a quiet night of sleep (I was only going to get about 5 hours of zzz). Front desk staff was like "oh. well. I kinda need to check w the manager. can I call you back?" 10 mins later, he never called back. I ended up giving in to my exhaustion and just asid - i'll stay put.
Really disappointing. I will never stay here again. I would recommend Novotel to anyone who needs to stay at an airport hotel - so you get a good night of sleep in a clean and quiet room... and wake up with nice service...
Good location however breakfast needs to improve.
Syl Won 12/04/2017 21:29Stayed twice due to good location (close to Taoyuan airport) however same lousy feeling for breakfast. Food variety is good but service needs to improved. No enough staff to clean the desk and foods need to be refilled faster.
Good enough for a night.
Sandyangon 07/04/2017 23:30My husband and I stayed in this hotel the night before our flight back home. The hotel's lobby looks o.k and the staff was very helpful and friendly. The room is small but for one night and for the price we pay it was more than enough. It has the basic necessities. The staff helped us with a wake up call at 5 a.m. and helped us getting a taxi ready. All in all it was o.k.
Yuk
Sebmackon 22/03/2017 14:05Where to begin?
The staff were actually OK. A bit functional but smiling. Nice looking bed and a big room and clean bathroom. It's very convenient for the airport.
Now... The wallpaper peeling damp on the wall, the aircon that doesn't work properly and is replaced by a fan. The black spots on the window exterior suggesting a while since a clean. The skanky carpet? The lack of an iron and board anywhere but the fifth floor laundry... And the lack of a basin there to fill the irons so you drip onto the floor? The cacophony from the buffet and smell so strong I'd rather eat in a prison canteen? Or the smoke smell.
The fact electronic room keys have the room number on them for reuse?
This actually could be nice, could get five stars if they weren't so stingy.
I'd stay here only if I was saving $400 by flying via TPE. Otherwise I'd go upscale to the Novotel or perhaps into town. There are cleaner downmarket places, and life's too short to get this skanky.
