What People are saying

Quaint inn

Patti Don 16/10/2016 19:51

Quaint, old inn. The owner is very nice and accommodating. The inn is old so don't expect everything to be new and shining. There is a lot of character in this inn. We did not see the ghost that is supposed to be at the inn.

Under refurbishing

Hope to see finished one day staff was lovely and welcoming. Had few issues. Tv remote was broken. Canopy bed was a valance canopy, room was still cozy. Breakfast was tasty but limited it was very convenient for our stay close to family party

Nice place...Back in the Day

First off, the staff was great, it it weren't for them I would of given two stars. They were on Skeleton Crew for Labor Day weekend. Please note, The Inn is for sale and in a transitional phase.

The restaurant is not open at all and will not reopen at this time. The maintenance guy/ grounds keeper was our bartender. He was very nice and talked him threw a couple martinis with another couple. The owner did initially check us in the night before and told us to help ourselves to a drink until someone came in @ 4:00. I though tat was very trusting and speaks a lot about the current owner.

I did not stay in the main building. However, I was in the restaurant @ the bar and for breakfast. I will talk about that later.

This place has real potential to be amazing. However, you can tell that they put bandaids on everything as opposed to a full repair. Just pan the room. The awkward pink wall color. The dusty drapes, The security system and lighting fixtures that are so , so old. It just feels old and dirty. Paper Napkins on the tables, old air conditioners handing out every couple of windows. They stuccoed over several areas of the wall.

The gift job they claim to have is small and just plain junk. Stuff you would find @ a junk sale of a flea market. Literally. Beer Steins, old vases, cups, mugs. Junk. They should turn this area into a coffee service area for the adjoining deck. The deck was decent, recently "patched", but the furniture is old and dirty.

They state breakfast is included. Being an Inn, I was expecting a meal. It was along the lines of a continental breakfast laid out on one round table. A bottle of milk, some cut up boxed pastry and a bowl of raisin bran , yogurt and a couple small items. The redeeming quality was the coffee. I believe it was Peete's coffee. Otherwise this was a bust. Did not go back the next morning and I saw others follow suit.

Now, the Carriage House. This is where I stayed as I had a dog. The bath towels used to be white now yellow. One of them had dark stains on it. The wall paper is peeling as well as the boarder, The bath mat was just gross and I am surprised they did not replace these low cost items. Dust and webs abound. They did have a flat screen TV, maybe a 19 inch with a ROKU box.

The bedding was comfortable, I did sleep well . But again, run down. The lamp shades had what appeared to be water stains on them. The room had a stand up , mobile air conditioner that was loud. Better than nothing,

Rude manager

Joe Con 16/08/2016 21:26

I booked the room for a stay on the weekend of 8/12 but canceled the reservation the same day, I received a call from the inn on Friday the 12th stating my room was ready. I left a message with them that night and was able to talk to someone the next day and the person who I talked to apologized for the mix up and I thought the situation was complete. I then get an email Monday morning stating I missed my stay and I was getting charged for one night. I called and spoke to the manager who was the rudest lady. Stating she lost them money for not canceling the stay.. I repeatedly told her that I had canceled the reservation because I was staying somewhere different. I kept explaining to her why would I stay in two places on the same weekend, she refused to resolve the issue She was a belligerent old lady who did not want to talk. If I was ever going to stay there in the future this has definitely turned me far from here. NEVER STAY HERE.

Old charming place

Colonial House Inn needs some updating and renovation but it is spotless and the people who run it are so accommodating. It was a good value for the money and we would stay there again. The Inn keeper took us on a historical tour that was very interesting and the word is that the carriage house has ghosts! The Inn is right next door to the Edward Gorey House and in a great location close to everything.
