Great hotel
Ron Don 06/08/2017 20:46Very relaxing and a hotel of the highest standards. Friendly, but could be a little more attentive in the service, however, location, cleanliness, beautiful rooms and pool more than make up for it.
We will return when we are back in the area
Despotiko (island) in heart of Cyclades, Despotiko hotel in heart of Portaria
zorbaoon 28/07/2017 22:53Combination of old fashion building and modern service;
- great hospitality
- clean and spacious room
- artistic bathroom
- nice breakfast
- it's a great place for one night stay if you are going to ferryboat to Skiathos
- but it's also a great place as a base for visiting whole Pelion, so you could stay few days, week, month, whole life :)
- Papadiamantis drinking fountain in hotel complex (water with forgotten taste of water)
- free parking space
- free wi-fi
- nice view to Volos
- 10 minutes/good road with all needed signs from Volos to Portaria (table for Despotiko in Portaria, near the main road, could be more notable, showy...)
- nice, small swimming pool
- it's a near to everything in Portaria, but far enough to be quiet, quiet place for great sleeping by Pelion air
- Nice place - Portaria, with three picturesque squares, under the shadow of very, very old plane trees
what else do you need for excellent mark?
Excellent cozy hotel
Kalokasidis Kon 16/07/2017 09:48Much better than I expected. The hospitality was extraordinary (we got a free room upgrade even if we are booking.com clients). The room was very well equipped with a beautiful bathroom with a shower cabin and everything in the room was new. The whole building had an excellent renovation preserving its traditional character. The breakfast buffet was also s surprise for a hotel of that low price
Bad Breakfast, Cold Room
Ioanna Kon 29/03/2017 09:59Luckily we booked οnly for one night. We tried everything from breakfast and nothing was decent. The breakfast was bad and not fresh. Furthermore the room was cold and the air condition didn't work well! We were disappointed
Unexpected delight!
DCAficionadoon 13/03/2017 12:08We stayed at Despotiko for only one night passing through the Volos area on our way to the North of Greece. We thought it was going to be an arrive-late-leave-early transactional experience. Instead, we were delighted and cannot wait to return!
The drive up the hill can be a little unnerving at night but the final destination is entirely worth it. The view is breathtaking!
Our experience was splendid all around: the old building restored to perfection with a touch of whimsy in the interior decor, coupled with all modern amenities and comforts, is outstanding. We had booked two separate rooms, and they were both beautiful and comfortable.
Due to the traditional structure of the old building (a restored 18-th century house, we were told) one can sometimes hear folks going up and down the stairs but that was not a problem for us. Waking up to the sound of Sunday morning church bells was, on the other hand, heavenly.
We had dinner at the restaurant literally across the cobbled street and warmly recommend it. The fresh oven-baked bread, the mushroom soup, the pork fillet and the salads -- well, essentially everything we tried -- was delicious! They did not have a menu in English but the wait staff was extremely helpful and virtually translated it all for us.
The breakfast service was superb: there was variety and attention to detail from all staff that made it a perfect start of the day.
And, last but not least, the hotel benefits tremendously from its very professional and courteous front desk staff.
What a treat!
