You cannot beat the view!

We decided to stay here for one night before we flew out of the Detroit airport. We wanted to do something different with our kids. It was a neat experience. Our room had an amazing view of the Detroit skyline and the river. We stared out the window for over an hour after the sun went down--the city was so pretty. Unfortunately, they were doing a renovation of the RenCen so a bunch of the GM and car exhibits were not accessible. We did enjoy leaving the hotel and walking along the river front. There is an area where kids can play in fountains just outside the hotel. The Detroit People Mover also stops at the hotel so it was easy to get around the downtown area.

I attended the Phi Beta Sigma Conclave July 2017. During the Ball on July 27th we were served dinner. There was a large piece of a broken coffee cup in my mashed potatoes that almost blended in. It was a bit large, so I tried to mash it and realized it was a piece of a broken cup. Needless to say that ruined by appetite. I sent it back and the server apologized. I emailed a complaint and there was never a response. This was a very expensive event and dinner. I'm still waiting for a response.

Very large hotel that did not disappoint

My girlfriend and I came here for a weekend getaway for a Tigers baseball game. The stadium is loaded about a 20 minute walk from the hotel. The hotel is very very large with almost 70 floors. Our room was nice and the bed was very clean and comfortable. The bathroom was okay, water pressure was sub-par but that's to be expected with such a large and older building. The views of the city and river are its best features. Great service. A lot of hotel to deal with but like most other Marriotts rarely disappoints.

Loud neighbors

A couple of things. We stayed on the 69th floor and had a spectacular view of the Detroit downtown. But our neighbors were jerks. Came in around 3 AM loud, and possibly drunk pounding on doors. Ugh. Outside the valet area was the biggest filth of cigarette butts ever. Ever hear of a broom? Also, as is the usual...the place is under renovation making the hotel even more confusing to navigate

Dog poop in room

I'm usually not one to complain or write bad reviews for anything because I know things happen, but what happened during my stay was unacceptable.
I stay here often so I was excited to come again. Everything was great upon arrival, and check in was good. As me and my sisters are getting ready for the night, we come across dog poop on the side of the bed. Meaning that the room obviously wasn't thoroughly cleaned.
We called down and the response we got was just "oh okay, do you want to move rooms or..." which I find dissatisfying because I too work at a different property, and was expecting the LEARN model. We waited about 20 or so minutes for someone to come up, when they finally did they sent us to the wrong room. Finally we got into the right room. There was just no care from the agents end, she mentioned that we would have a riverside view, as if that would make finding poop in our previous room better.
