Mediocre Marriott
RFk900on 21/08/2017 18:24This Southfield Marriott property is convenient and quiet. My 3rd floor room was worn. Hotel undergoing a major renovation, 4&5th floors were closed and under construction. Lobby, bar and restaurant are completed.
Wedding visit
Vols_Rockon 19/07/2017 17:39Stayed overnight for a wedding. Our room was nice and clean but lacked a fridge. Had to go down the hallway and get ice. Good thing we brought our cooler. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the shuttle staff were excellent. They do have free coffee in the morning, but breakfast is not free. It is pretty expensive for a continental and goes up $3 for a more traditional breakfast. For the amount of money you spend on hotels, they should offer breakfast. All in all, a good stay, but they get marked down for the breakfast and lack of a fridge.
Promising; Under going renovations
ORD-TGUon 19/07/2017 16:31At check in I was told that there are renovations, club lounge is closed. I was given points for that, plus an option to have afternoon snack and breakfast in restaurant. That seems like a decent compromise.
My room was ok, all functional; I welcome the new renovated rooms.
Beds are comfortable, everything else was good.
Lobby is new, restaurant looks new.
Parking is free; Internet is free.
Rooms have large desks which I highly value.
Family Reunion
Sprkleon 03/07/2017 14:57I checked in via the app earlier in the day. We walked in to get our keys very late and was greeted with a warm hello. No paperwork just ID, it took only a couple minutes. We felt very welcome.
The hotel lobby was clean and had a good feel. It was late so they were starting to shut down but they do have a small snack shop next to the front desk and a full size bar in the lobby area.
I travel a lot. By my standards the room was nice, not exceptional but nice. Neat and clean? Yes. There was a standard desk and chair, a big cushioned chair and lamp, a small refrigerator and coffee maker. There was no safe in the room. The bathroom was very small. The door to the bathroom was inches from the commode.
We hosted our family reunion banquet here. The food was great. Most banquet food is not tasty but tolerable this food was exceptional. We have caterer's in the family and they were impressed. Our menu included: baked chicken breast and baked salmon, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetables with asparagus, a pasta salad, a mixed spring salad and rolls. For dessert we had Black Forrest cake and Cheesecake, both delicious!
The staff was very attentive, and accommodating. Our program did not start as planned, so we did not start eating on time. We had a lot of elderly family members and things were just a bit slower than we anticipated. The staff patiently waited till we were ready.
All in all, it was a great stay. I would definitely recommend it!
Shining light after a dark night
Cathy Won 29/06/2017 02:36My Mom and I came to Southfield to visit a relative. We were booked at a different hotel. When we got to that one it was disgusting. We immediately checked out. After flagging down a Michigan State Trooper, he pointed us in the direction of the Marriott. Thank God!!, it was so nice, the staff were very helpful, nice to talk too. The only draw back was I needed 3 nights they only had 1, but we took it. Great everything!!!
