Old hotel for families overlooking the inland sea

althebackpackeron 11/10/2016 07:09

The view from the sea front rooms is amazing yet unfortunately the hotel is old and tired. The carpet, wall paper and general decor is faded or falling apart. The meals are plentiful yet designed for families and the quality is average. Handy if you are going to the islands yet off the beaten track.

An uncharming Japanese family hotel in a nice beach location

A Japanese beach hotel with strong resemblance to a Russian hotel design. The hotel is located just be the sea with a great beach and a lovely sea view. The hotel itself is not very charming (concrete and designed like a former Eastern European hotel). Rooms are spacious, but lack charm. Service is friendly, but very inconsistent (depends on the individual how much they can help you with). The hotel is really a Japanese family hotel. Lots of families with small kids and the hotel as such seems to be well adapted to the younger Japanese generation (it is not a quiet beach hotel). The food is unusually expensive and probably of the lowest quality I have experience at a hotel in Japan. However, there are a number of small villages around where you can get much better food at much lower price (try the harbour village of Uno). Make sure to stay only if you have a car.

A little bit of a Japanese tourist!!

enalsakon 13/12/2014 11:00

Wow, after staying in Tokyo & Osaka this is more or a travelling experience! We stayed here due to my partner working 15 minutes away, it appeared to be off the beaten track but hey I was lost! It also seemed more of a Japanese holiday resort.
We were really the only westerners at the time in the hotel but what a fabulous experience for the children, we had a typical Japanese family room (only available) with the fold away futon style beds, not what we are used to but hey variety is the spice of life! Oh and my what fun those oscillating toilets are! My sons donned the Yukatas for dinner, although I was slightly apprehensive at causing offence but everyone welcomed it warm heartedly in the manner it was intended!
The buffet dining was excellent, from the steak squares cooked to your liking to the fresh seafood in tanks & of course the sticky rice!! The waiters making origami creatures during serving is amazing to watch, so clever.
The Japanese people are so lovely & welcoming, yes it is not a 5* western hotel, it is a good place to practise your Japanese, it is not as usual western tourist haunt but if you are travelling Japan why not take a few days out to experience something a little left of centre?
the Hotel is directly beachside & Tamano Bay is beautiful with turquoise water & pale soft sand and the most amazing view of the Great Seto Bridge.
