Very good - but quiet
Mike Bon 21/08/2017 00:16Rooms are very spacious with private sun loungers on the terrace, but it's pot luck if the sun reaches the terrace! Bathroom with a jacuzzi bath is fine. The property generally is getting a little tired and could do with a refurbishment, especially around the pool area. Dinner is excellent, and served to your table most nights, but there is a little too much emphasis on Italian food. More fish would have been welcomed - especially as we were on the coast! Breakfast was not quite as good; similar food every day and not that appetising. The waiting staff at breakfast and dinner were excellent. Unfortunately, this was not the case if you wanted an afternoon snack; 45 minutes for a burger to be prepared and served is not really acceptable, neither should you wait 15 minutes for a coke. The bar is very quiet and you may as well take drinks to your room or the restaurant. There were plenty of loungers around and the pool is a reasonable size. The hotel is right on the beach but as soon as you take one step onto it you become a target for the beach sellers. They do not give up easily. Some evening entertainment was provided; this was very good. There is nowhere near the hotel providing alternative entertainment so evenings without this tended to be quiet. There is a boutique on site but beware of the prices. Souvenirs are reasonable value but polo shirts, dresses, bikinis, shorts etc. are best left on the racks. The hotel advertises free wi-fi; it does exist, but devices are forever dropping off the network as one of the routers is down. There are multiple routers which equates to multiple failures. Often these just needed a re-boot, but I think the hotel needs to work on this. There is a spa and massage centre attached to the hotel. This has a separate pool and lounging area, which is better than the hotel equivalent. The drawback is that you can only use it if you pay for a massage or another therapy. A typical massage is $45 to $50, but you could pay more or less than this. Overall, I would recommend the hotel for a quiet, relaxing holiday.
Truly relaxing
judithgarsonon 17/08/2017 16:32We spent two nights at the hotel. I loved the fact that it is a relatively small hotel. Our rooms were enormous. We had a garden room with a large terrace. The room was immaculate as was the huge bathroom with jacuzzi.
The staff are amazing. I would personally like to thank Mr Dolla , the F&B manager, for taking such good care of us and all our needs. Loved Constance, Miri, Raphael , Deniece and all the staff . They really went out of their way to ensure we had an unforgettable stay. Kennedy kept our room impeccably clean. No request was too much for the staff.
Loved the fact that there was no loud music etc by the pool. But if anyone does want that you can go to the sister resort next door and use all their facilities. I did a great stretching class with Kennedy, their sports instructor.
There was a lot of seaweed in the sea so it was difficult to swim but the pool and pool area was kept very clean and staff were constantly coming round offering drinks.
Great experience.
Wonderful staff!
Laurie Con 11/07/2017 21:44Have just spent 10 lovely days here! Very relaxed, wonderful staff who really made you feel special and made such a fuss over our children, beautiful position right on the stunning beach, lovely spacious rooms, fantastic food and a very good price!
May not fit everyone's idea of a 5* hotel but this isn't Dubai! If you want an incredibly relaxing beach holiday - this is the place!
All the staff really went out of their way to make sure we had a fantastic holiday. Friendly, helpful, professional and personable at every level, but never intrusive or overbearing.
Some people have mentioned the 'beach boys' as a negative. Never forget you are in a developing country. Just take a trip to the stunning Hell's Kitchen in Marafa and ponder on what you see on the way. The guys on the beach are making a living and are polite and respectful. They don't want a bad reputation. Be straight with them, buy a few coconuts or let them guide you in the reef. If you don't want their attention, tell them 'not today' and they'll say 'Hakuna Matata' and move on.
Malindi is a gem that was found but then lost a little during the global financial crisis. The many Italians that bought property there, have sold up and gone leaving the locals slightly bewildered at the lack of tourists that they were used too. But what is left behind is a genuine, tropical paradise that you, at the moment, can have to yourself! Malindi and its people is amazing. Get there before everyone else does!
Small, Peaceful Resort with Five Course Meals
Fantajanon 04/07/2017 19:35I spent two nights in the hotel as I was in Malindi for business. It is a relatively small resort, which I liked, as it was generally quiet and peaceful. The rooms are enormous and feature private patios which are as big as hotel rooms in New York City. The rooms are tastefully decorated and comfortable and the bathrooms feature jacuzzi tubs. The bed is enormous and comfortable. The wireless internet in my room worked relatively well (but another colleagues struggled to get a connection in his room). I had no issues but two other colleagues had problems getting hot water once or twice so you may not have a flawless experience. Try for one of the upstairs rooms. We were on half board (breakfast and dinner included). The breakfast was ok but the dinner was fantastic - a five course meal with an appetizer/salad, soup, pasta, main course, and dessert. You choose between a few options in each category and there were always vegetarian options. With five courses, plan on spending a good hour and a half at the table. The breakfast and dinner hours aren't great for business travelers (starting at 7:30am and 8pm) but are manageable.
Lovely and well priced hotel
PwilliamsPwilliamson 05/06/2017 11:19Pleased with the standard of this hotel for the price. Lovely staff who were willing to help, allowed me to take tea/coffee in my room while putting my baby to bed throughout the day which was lovely! Rooms were serviced well (despite being a little tired in the bathroom) and nice and clean. Airconditioning much appreciated. Pool area needs improved cleaning attention - lots of families were eating in the vicinity and it was slow to be tidied up so lots of flies in the region. Beach largely unusable due to such significant hassling by locals. Otherwise a great stay.
