Lost it's former glory

I have been to Diani Reef about 10 years ago and the first thing that struck me when I arrived and checked in is that nothing much had changed.

I chose it because 10 years ago they had desserts to die for, a manager who was so very friendly and attentive and always stopped at your table or anywhere he met you to check if you were comfortable and having a good time and great indian food. Unfortunately 10 years later, desserts were just standard fare, we were there for 4 days but never once saw the manager, and the breakfast menu could definitely use some shaking up as it was just the same stuff every single day! I found it strange that the only 4 fruits offered every day were just pineapple, melon, mango and bananas. No Pawpaws, passion and Mango's which are in abundance in the country. But when we requested for pawpaw, it was immediately brought to our table.

The indian food was good and the chef made us hot fresh chapati's (roti's) whenever we arrived. The continental food was also very good. The staff were very friendly and the service was great. They were very accomodative if we asked for anything and would bring it immediately.

The rooms we were in were just the same as we found them 10 years ago, and were showing signs of age and in desperate need of renovation. The Kids club also needs some improvements as balls were missing or pool table damaged etc.

It might also be that occupancy seemed to be quite low being just before elections in Kenya, but having said that, I feel certain standards must be maintained whether you are full house or barely 25% occupancy.

Their tea time was a treat and they had lovely cookies, cakes and pancakes that the kids really enjoyed.

I found their ala carte/snack menu to have crazy prices, e.g a plate of masala chips was for Kshs.650/- !! At all other beach hotels, the most it can be is Kshs.300/-. So this just gives you an idea of how exhorbitant their prices are. It's almost as if they don't want you to order from them!

If I had not been to this hotel 10 years ago when it was newly opened, I would probably not have had any complaints (except their crazy menu pricing). But because I was there when it was new, I have noticed a drop in their standards and overall look and feel and believe this should never happen as standards must always be maintained. Thankfully the service was excellent so it made up for it all and we had a fantastic time and enjoyed every moment of our holiday.

The experience was amazing even after the team leader of the facility joined us for the celebration , the chef did a wonderful job any one visiting should try the Chinese restaurant.
the room is excellent with a rooms facing the ocean you can actually wait for sunrise from the balcony of your room as you take a cup of coffee which you have made 4 yourself from your room.

This resort is undoubtedly my favorite in Diani. From the warm reception of the staff to the delicious cuisine to the beautiful paveway to the beach, i give this property a 5 star. I will only stay here when i come to Diani. A special mention to chef Mugambi for his tasty food and Praveen, the resort manager.

the room are very suitable,mu husband and son like it so much.and very clean .
Especially for the service,very nice.

And dinner are delicious,We are chinese but we like the hotel food.

The enviroment are also very nice.

PLEASE AVOID THIS HOT AT ALL COST! Filthy ponds, discolored towels, shower with salty beach water. Manager unbothered.

Booked a night here for my birthday but we had to check out shortly after. First thing we noticed was that the water ponds/fountains were dirty & had green water. Red flag for an are with mosquitoes. Then upon entering our room, the towels were just gross. All of them. Brownish instead of white. We called the reception & they brought us clean towels. My friend showered first and when she dried, her body was all white & full of salt. Not to mention itchy. We contacted the reception again & they said that the water is indeed from the beach & that the whole county uses the same water. They said the whole hotel used the same water & they offered to upgrade us to a bigger room but size was not our problem. We decided to check out coz we found a nearby resort that did not use salty beach water. When they refunded us the money, they kept $15 and said it was for transportation from the airport. Now, transportation was complimentary and part of the room package. We asked to speak to a manager about the whole ordeal and lo & behold it was impossible. They kept calling the manager on the phone but he gave them excuses; he is not available, he is at the beach -with a customer, he is at the office. We asked if he can spare 2mins & talk to us over the phone. No, he is with at the beach with a client. This dismissal really infuriated us. We waited a bit longer & finally the manager showed up. He Apologized & offered us a bigger room but refused to give us our full money back. When we got to the next resort nearby, they did not use salty beach water for shower & sink. They were cleaner, offered full board-including drinks and entertainment for the same price as Diani reef.
