Pure verwennerij
Patrickvh1973on 30/04/2017 12:07My wife and I planned a weekendtrip to Hotel die Sonne in Frankenberg in March. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The rooms are comfortable and clean. The attention to detail is a plus too.
There's plenty of choice at the breakfast buffet with lots of fresh products from the region. We chose to have our dinner twice at Restaurant Stube. The food is tasty and the staff was a delight.
The old village of Frankenberg breathes history and you can make beautiful walks through nature in the area. The Edersee is close by as well.
Just to illustrate the hotel's service level: I forgot my sweater and shirt in our room when we left. I sent an e-mail and received the garments two days later through post delivery, courtesy of the hotel.
Expensive and overrated
GiacomoD77on 17/03/2017 20:34Honestly speaking, I do not understand why this hotel has so many excellent evaluation. It is for sure a pretty nice hotel, with most of all the comfort you may need. But I cannot say, in comparison with others, that this is excellent. For example, quality of bath amenities is not very good. And some rooms architecture can lead to "headache". Both bistro and restaurant are really really really expensive, without reasons. The food is not special. And breakfast is just normal German breakfast. I would suggest only for short stay and in case you want to use spa as well.
Tremendous surprise
Erich Hon 12/03/2017 18:56After leaving the motorway in Marburg and spending the next 30 minutes winding through pastures and tiny villages, I did not expect Die Sonne to be of this caliber. Everything about this property is worthy of a major city and I doubt there are many cities Frankenberg's size that can boast a comparable hotel or restaurant. The hospitality is excellent and the staff is clearly experienced with international travelers. The room was spacious by European standards and the bed and bath were both as good as I've found in Germany. The on-site food was truly exceptional, and I didn't even eat in the Michelin starred restaurant. I've long been a fan of traditional German dishes, and here I was treated to top notch Roulade and the most tender Wienerschnitzel imaginable. I'd love to get back and eat at the main restaurant and even find some time to visit the spa, but even considering I didn't take advantage of all the property has to offer I still had an extremely nice stay.
Can't wait to return
Gregory Bon 14/02/2017 19:42Finding this place is not so easy but well worth it.
The spa is amazing but be prepared to get naked as it's compulsory. It wasn't busy during my stay and most of the time I had the place to myself.
The bar serves food until 10pm and the fillet steak burger is amazing. Probably best avoiding the German red wine if I'm honest but it's a taste thing.
The bar staff and very capable, incredibly hospitable and speak very good English.
The rooms are large and comfortable.
The hotel is split across two buildings which are either side of a road but worry not as there is a walkway linking them below ground. The spa is on one side and the reception, bar and restaurant on the other.
Breakfast is very nice.
Hope to be able to stay there again.
