Not all "Savannah Views" are the same

Sundevil86on 06/06/2017 18:39

I knew we wouldn't necessarily always or even ever see animals with our pricey Savannah View, but I thought the view itself would at least be pretty. It was not. We looked directly into a bank of other hotel rooms across from us, a big, noisy bank of AC units to our left, and an empty animal pen to our right. Also a big dirt road. SO disappointed. I've included a photo collage--advertised view in center, our view surrounds. Our view was as bad as the parking lot. We would have been better off with a cheaper view of the pool. We have stayed at all the other Disney Deluxe resorts and had a deluxe experience, but not at AK Lodge. Also, housekeeping service was not up to par compared to other deluxe resorts, and there was a snafu with our online check in, but all that was minor compared to the disappointment of the awful view we paid extra for.

Great, family-friendly experience at Animal Kingdom Lodge

We stayed at the Animal Kingdom Lodge for eight nights in early May 2017 and enjoyed this unique, well-themed Disney resort. Visiting with a preschooler, what we enjoyed most about this resort, were the savanna views, the family-friendly facilities, great restaurants, cultural activities and animal programs.

We booked a savanna view room with two queen beds, which was a comfortable size for three of us, and each day we'd head out to our balcony to watch giraffes, zebras, cattle, gazelles, cranes and more.

For young children, I’d recommend the swimming pool and fantastic water playground at Kidani Village with play areas suitable for children age 4 and under. Jambo House also has a playground, arcade and large swimming pool and a water slide. I was impressed with the resort’s calendar of activities, which included African culture immersion, poolside games, wine tasting, cookie decorating, music sessions and animal programs. At an additional charge, there are even afternoon and nighttime safaris for ages 8 or 10 years and up. The cultural ambassadors and animal experts were all very informative, friendly and did a fantastic job engaging the guests in each activity.

Our 3 year old son spent an evening at Simba's Cubhouse, the supervised kid's club (children must be potty-trained), and enjoyed the crafting activities and many toys. There isn’t a quiet room for children to rest or sleep - instead there’s an area with bean bags in front of a TV. The resort does, however, offer in-room babysitting services.

As for dining at the resort, the highlights for us were the excellent selection at the breakfast buffet at Boma and dinner at Sanaa. We were very disappointed with room service - it was overpriced and my falafel sandwich was awful.

Customer service was occasionally disappointing during our stay. First, when we were checked in, we were directed to the 5th floor but our room was on the 2nd floor. Once we got to the room, we opened the door only to find that there were still guests staying for one more night, so we had to go back to reception to be checked in to a new room. We were given a meal discount voucher for one of the resort restaurants for the mistake. Customer service at the reception, concierge and gift shop was generally slow and it was sometimes difficult to reach anyone at the front desk by phone.

Housekeeping was inconsistent and we were often missing certain items – clean coffee mugs, some towels, new toiletries. We also had two days when we’d return to the room in the late afternoon to find that housekeeping still had not tended to the room, and we ended up having to skip those days.

That said, we had a great stay at the Animal Kingdom Lodge and I would highly recommend the resort. It's excellent for families, with great facilities and plenty of activities to make the most of while you're there.

Animals are the reason

If you want to see African Animals this is the reason to visit this hotel. We just got back from a week here. The staff are all great. The savannah rooms are nice albeit a bit overpriced but (it is Disney) so everything is. This is the second visit to this hotel, I think it will be the last though. The price of the food is a bit outrageous really. The bed was painful it will take a few days for my neck and back to go back to normal from a week in that bed. And you can hear other guests in their bathrooms doing their business at night. Not very soundproof.

First visit to Animal Kingdom Lodge

After living in Florida for most of my life, I finally decided to do a Disney Resort Vacation.

The Animal Kingdom Lodge was an amazing resort! Check In went smooth. I booked our trip as a Florida Resident/Passholder. And at first when we were walking to our room, I had reservations....We are way in the back facing a fence line...we aren't going to have a good view... but that quickly dissipated! The animals loved being in the back. Each morning and afternoon there were a variety of animals for us to enjoy looking at.

The room was well kept. The beds were comfortable and clean. The in-room coffee was good.
The bathroom was also very clean, although the water pressure changed frequently.

Since we were in the back, hallway noise was kept to a minimum. However, the walls must be a little thin as you can hear showers, toilets flushing and the occasional little one having a melt down. But this was not enough to affect or trip.

The views outside were amazing. But remember to shut the glass door behind you or you will end up with flies and moths in your room. :)

Animal Kingdom Lodge First Adventure (wish trip)

absolutely a wonderful experience! our balcony looked out onto the "Sahara" and we saw giraffes and zebra wildebeest blue cranes northern ground hornbill South African Shelducks and rabits, nyala and Gazelle's(tommies)
staff were very friendly and happy to see you. Dining at Jiko and Boma was an interesting experience. Expensive. the lesser cost for food was by the pool and was a great option. Buying the refillable cup was a great feature. definately recommend a meal plan! Thank you to everyone at Animal Kingdom lodge for making this a memorable stay!
