What People are saying

Fawtly Towers in Rome

piggyLondonon 31/05/2015 13:01

Stayed here with the family - BIG mistake - they are still reminding me about my poor choice months later.

This is not a hotel - more like staying in a private apartment. It is nothing like the photos on the website - the room, beds and public areas are very shabby. The kids bed in our room was a broken sofa bed.

All of this would have been OK given the low price and proximity to the Vatican had the owner ( I am not even going to say Manager) Snr Betti been even remotely pleasant to us.

It all started when we had the temerity to arrive later than expected (Easyjet?? enough said) and we reminded him that we had paid in advance on a credit card rather than giving him cash.

From this moment onwards he conspired to thwart our enjoyment of our stay. In a bipolar way he was supremely pleasant to the other occupants while being surly and childish to us. Breakfast was served to other occupants while we were informed that it was not included in our rate - we were told that we were not allowed to use the bathroom in the morning or evening - only between 3 and 5 (when we were out exploring),

The Basil Fawlty like behaviour became funny after a while and we waited to see what he would do next to try and spoil our trip. Happily, the beauty of Rome and the amazing attitude of the Italian people bizarrely made this one of our most remembered holidays.

Service was terrible, place was a mess and could not get refund even tho he did not provide the number of beds we had requested. The owner does not give legal receipts as required by Italian law, he writes amount on a sheet of paper and wants you to pay it.

Good location but...

Good location as it was very close the Vatican and the subway station but the room wasn't as was in the pictures. It was in desperate need of updating and a bit of cleaning. If all you care about is being in a central location then I'd recomend it but if you're planning in spending any more time there than sleeping in it, then keep on looking. The premier in is luxury compared to this. Ps. The hall's a bit creepy and you will be woken up when the owner brings you breakfast (a cappuccino and a pastry) at half 8. Oh yes almost forgot if you're going solo the pigeons outside the window will keep you company!

Clean place

It's a nice place with strategic location, very close and convinient to the Vatican museum, St.Peter's basilica, and close to a bus station, from where you can reach all of the important historical places in the city. There is a metro-station in a walk distance, nice shops and friendly restaurants. The room was tidy, every day cleaned and changing the lines, facing the street. The breakfast was delicious cappuccino and croissants. The owner Armando Betty was very kind and we had a great time in Rome.

great location, but breakfast is disappointing

Danae1005on 07/03/2013 11:59

The place was clean enough, but our room was too small and we had no en suite bathroom...the location is in the heart of Vatican so it's great, but the breakfast is absolutely disappointing...in the end it's a bit pricy for what you get. Ok for young couples but I wouldn't go there as a family.
