Pleasant stay
roscotrainon 08/10/2016 23:08We booked five nights at Don Juan self catering apartments and paid 270 euros. We had a room on the 3rd floor. We had a hire car and had already visited Gib and the mountain villages. Wanted some coast/sun/sea/sand but not to be tied to an all inclusive hotel so self catering was just right for us.
Don Juan was a pleasant stay. It was coming to the end of the season so was very quiet which suited us perfectly. There were very few people using the pool area which we found was kept very clean and tidy and well presented.
The apartment was spacious and had quite a large balcony. Facilities in the room included a TV which had the five main British channels, washing machine, well stocked kitchen with cups/plates/cutlery etc, a toaster, kettle, fridge with freezer compartment and usual cooking facilities including a microwave. It was all fairly clean and tidy, however we did have to buy washing up liquid and a dishcloth as these weren't provided and it was obvious the previous occupants hadn't bothered to wash any dishes with detergent. Room Wi-Fi was free of charge and relatively good for basic internet. Sheets and towels were changed every four days.
Reception desk was open until 10pm evenings and the staff were superb.
There was a café on site but we didn't use it.
If you stay at Don Juan then we'd suggest you need some sort of transport as you are at the far south of the resort and it's a good 20 minute walk to the nearest shops/cafes/restaurants, although there was a beach café/restaurant directly in front of the hotel.
The nearest supermarkets are about 3/4 mile north on the main dual carriageway.
The hotel is on the main A7 dual carriageway so (with a car) is easily accessible to the likes of Gibraltar (25 mins), Esteopona (15 mins), Sottogrande (10 mins) and the nearby resorts of La Duquesa and San Luis De Sabinillas which are just two minutes away. These two resorts have everything you need for eating out, especially La Duquesa which has numerous restaurants providing all sorts of cuisine (British, Italian, Indian, Mexican, Moroccan, Argentinian, Chinese, Seafood just to name a few).
Don't be put off by the apartments being next to a dual carriageway. When you're sat by the pool you can hardly hear it and most of the rooms face inwards so noise is minimal. The site offers secure parking for 6 euros a day. Alternatively you can park on the road at the side (about 6 parking spaces) or failing that, at the bottom of the road in the beach car park.
All in all we had a pleasant stay with no hiccups, but had we not have had our own transport then things would have been much different. Would we recommend it? Yes, if you have a car!
For that price I would not stay again
Vita Mon 18/09/2016 08:26Liked location, view from our apartment, bar at the sea (sea food dinner and live music on Friday evening made my day). Also I was surprised to see so many parrots on palm trees at the pool. Receptionists were helpful. Explained how to get to Gibraltar by bus etc.
BUT very disappointed by few things - we had nice 2 bedroom apartment, unfortunately, smell of drainage was incredible all days of staying. Every morning in the corridor was very strong smell of cigarettes, which came from cleaners spot.
In my opinion breakfast selection is poor and a bit over priced for what they offer.
I doubt if I would like to stay there again for the price they charge.
Wonderful

The port is 20 minute walk away which is beautiful and caters for all tastes .
We flew into Gibraltar and hired a car and within 25 minutes we were at our location,
