The hotel is in need of refurbishment, however the rooms are clean and the restaurant is good value, the food is very good, breakfast was also of a good standard with plenty of choice, all the staff were very helpful and friendly
There is plenty of parking.

Could be a lot better

My wife and I stayed here two nights first week in August on a wowcher deal our room was ok a good size and clean apart from a cobweb going from the light fitting to the beam, there was a handle missing on the walldrobe door and some one had done a bodge job on the wonderful old sink tap in the bathroom,(either do it wright or replace it) some of the carpets in the corridors are a little bit thread bear.the staff all seem friendly enough butt there always seems to be new faces each day and they all have a different way of doing things.The restaurant is good but the portion sizes are in my opinion a bit on the small side, apart for the breakfast which is good, the wine is over priced compared to a lot of restaurants I have been to.
Butt this place has a certain charm about it, it has a lot of history attached and with a bit of attention to detail and some investment it could be a real winner.

When we walked into the hotel the reception was pleasant and smart but this didn't last, into the 'lounge' it felt like a old people's home and smelt! Old tea and coffee hadn't been cleared from the table and there was stains on the chairs which looked like they had seen better days, paint peeling and lights were covered in dust, on arrival we had to wait two hours for our room to be ready we was told the room would be ready at two, it wasn't! Then ten minutes they said it'd be ready... it wasn't, the wedding ceremony was going to start at three and we didn't get into our room till half two so we had to rush to get ready, when we got to our room in the corridor was some old boot polish in a dark corner, bizarre ! Alas the room was clean but decor dated, very quirky a vintage radio was mounted on the wall next to the light switch and would constantly fall of the wall, unfortunate I wish it would work but it did not, it was very dull lighting the switches are dotted all around the room and confusing to which switch goes to which light, some bulbs were blown. Bar staff got a order wrong but to there credit they was very pleasant and professional guys. Waitresses had dirty uniform and looked miserable and the manager was rude and didn't seem to deligate his staff and let them do what they wanted with no real guidance or managing tact, had an awesome wedding party though !

. The staff were friendly and helpful. comfy bed and excellent food. The hotel is a little tired but atmosphere and quirkiness made up for that.We were in the courtyard rooms which were nice and quiet. We enjoyed our stay and have rebooked for later in the year

Two night stay for wedding.

We stayed at here to go to a wedding at this hotel on a Saturday might. As we were traveling from the south we decided to stay over on the Friday night too. The room we were given on the Friday wasn't very nice. It was a large room but had no widows. Only a glass fire exit. We had to open this door to get any air in the room. It was very hot in the night as we couldn't leave it open when we were sleeping. Because of the lack of windows the room was very dark & this wasn't helped by half of the lights not working. The bathroom was tiny. It had a shower but no bath. The next morning we asked to be moved & were given a smaller room but it had windows & a good sized bathroom. We was a few other room that family were staying in and they were much nicer. So I guess we were unlucky to have been given poorer rooms. Both rooms we had were in need of some tlc & replacement of broken & stained items. They were both clean with clean fresh linen & towels plus beds were comfortable. Breakfast was generally good with cooked & cold item. However the tea was horrible as it was mad in the flask & poured into your cup! What's that about surly they could provide a pot of tea. After all the hotel offers afternoon tea so they must have some.

The wedding we attended was lovely with nicely decorated function room & the food was of a high quality. The staff in the hotel were friendly.

If you are going to stay here make sure you don't get room 2 unless you are a troglodyte.
