A hotel need renovation

My wife and me were staying in Nagoya Dormy Inn just for one night before the trip to Takayama at Autumn 2016. Dormy Inns are usually my first choice while we travel to Japan however the Nagoya Dormy Inn Express has let down my impression, the major problem is the room is really small, we understand Dormy Inn are normally having small room but we feel we have had the smallest room space here, and another problem is th eroom is old, tired and did not feel clean on the washroom and floor..etc Not a usual Dormy Inn we have had before.

Cancelled my stay - foreigner rip off, rude staff

Steven Pon 04/02/2017 23:25

I booked a week long stay at this hotel and ended up cancelling immediately after I arrived on the night of Feb. 4. I was charged 18,000 yen per night, which did not include breakfast. The room was very poor quality and I just could not see myself staying there a week paying 18,000 yen per night. I found out the locals pay no where near that price, and they also receive free complementary breakfast. Overall I feel the appropriate price for this hotel should be 5000-6000 yen range. What upset me even more was the bad attitude from the lady at the front desk. She was very poor in english, which is fine with me, as I was willing to spend my time to explain I wanted to cancel my reservation; however, she grew frustrated and even rude over the inefficiency of our communication. It seem to me like she wasn't even willing to listen, and I had to talk to the older guy at the frint desk who seems to be the manager to cancel my reservation. He allowed me to cancel 6 days and I had to eventually pay 18,000 yen for one night.

Attended a conference in Nagoya in Oct and stayed here for 6 nights

The hotel rooms are small, but clean. The hotel is nice and does a good breakfast. They also serve free noodles after 9.30pm. There is a spa (sauna, hot tub and showers) in the basement, but women can only use it on the weekends. The hotel is a 10 mins walk to the Nagoya train station and the shopping are around the stattion. They have a shuttle that runs to the station in the am. My room had a small fridge and microwave and was a good price compared to other hotels in the area. Most of the front desk staff spoke English and they were very helpful.

Poor management in general

Amy8212on 18/10/2016 05:45

There are many things I would like to share:
1. Steps up to the hotel front desk definitely not invited
2. Helpful staff but POOR English
3. Non smoking floor filled with cigarettes smell
4. Shower head leakage
5. Careless cleaner, no clean cups and green tea replacement, rough work
6. I stayed there from Tuesday to Saturday, there was no Jacuzzi for Female till Sunday, Male only
7. There was one day I entered in the lift, the smell of the lift was horrid, I went to receptionist and informed her the bad smell, apparently she knew what was going on but she didn't take any initiated for the smell, then I suggested her to spray the air freshener. Well........

Good value, OK location

The 'Express' Dormy Inns are slightly more budget minded than the 'Premium' ones, but the facilities are very similar. This branch had a nice looking onsen, but women were only allowed to use it at weekends, so I couldn't try it out. There was an extra charge for breakfast, but they give free noodle ramen at night. The staff were really sweet and helpful and there was always someone who spoke at least a little English.

The rooms are small, which is standard in Japan, with nowhere to store a suitcase. There was a fridge, kettle and microwave in the room. That was convenient, but honestly, I'd rather have had the extra floor space as the room was so small.

It wasn't hard to find, but it's further from the station than it looks. There is a shuttle, but the times aren't very convenient. Also, when you arrive there are steps up to the lobby, which is a hassle when you've already hauled your suitcase all the way from the station. There is an elevator, but it's tucked away behind a locked door in the parking lot and not particularly obvious.
