What People are saying

Good price and free ramen!

Jimjazzon 24/11/2016 13:43

For the price you pay, you will get a small but nice room 5 minutes walk away from Takasaki Station. If you plan to do sightseeing without a car , the (not so convenient) buses depart from that station.

The room is well equiped with pajamas, slippers , shampoo... There is no bathtub in the room, but there is an onsen in the hotel free to use (i didnt tried it, but looked pretty cool).

There is free Wi-Fi and a service of Free Ramen at night.

In the morning breakfast was pretty good with mahy choices (mainly japanese breakfast, but also some salad, cofee and pastries)

There are rooms for smokers.

I would stay there again if i happen to be around Takasaki.

Nice Stay near Takasaki Station

This was our first stay at a Dormy Inn. The hotel is about a 5-7 minute walk from the Takasaki JR station. Check-in is smooth and efficient. The rooms are small but they are well equipped. One of the best features of the hotel is their onsen (bath). It is very well done. Although crowded, the breakfast was also very good.
There are a number of good restaurants on the way to the station. Barbeque Grill Takasaki is recommended.

onsen!

we asked for a map at the tourist info in takasi station and with that it was very easy to find the hotel. less than 10min walk with heavy bags.
staff was polite and spoke good english at reception.
room was clean and average japanes size. also provided nice pyjamas and slipper to wear when going to the onsen.
and as others has writen before, the onsen was great!
breakfast was japanese and plentifull.

A business hotel with a difference

The rooms of the Dormy Inn might be small and basic, as are those of many Japanese business hotels, but it makes up for it with a wonderful shared onsen facility. The baths are segregated by gender and are not open during the day. Attractively decorated with natural stone there are both indoor and outdoor baths, a cool plunge bath and a very hot sauna room. One section of the indoor hot bath was fitted with a device to send electrical pulses into the water - accidentally stuck my arm in the area and felt like I had hit my funny bone. There is no better way of relaxing after a long day of exploration than with an onsen bath and I thought the Dormy Inn to be one of the better facilities that I have used.

Rooms are only equipped with shower cubicle. Note that the supplied soaps and shampoos contain royal jelly - which is not great for allergy sufferers or honey haters like me. Thankfully those in the onsen (you wash there before bathing) is without royal jelly.

The rest of the room contains a fridge, washbasin, bed with a nice doona, decent television (no foreign channels, if that bothers you), kettle and a narrow desk. I didn't test the free wired internet access. Had a decent sleep until I was awoken by a (false) fire alarm. Same thing happened to me at a Super Hotel! Note that all announcements were made in Japanese only - the sign says that you will be evacuated by following a staff member and I am a little concerned about this safety aspect for foreigners at the hotel.

The staff members at the front desk were friendly and spoke basic English - sufficient for checking in and a basic description of facilities. I believe that a free glass of beer is available as a welcome drink. A free bowl of reasonably tasty vegetarian ramen noodles were served between 9 and 11pm. Breakfast is charged, unlike the Toyoko Inn and Super Hotel chains and I didn't try it.

Note that you cannot seem to book online directly with Dormy Inn. My booking was through Japanican.

I would definitely want to stay at the Dormy Inn if in Takasaki again and look forward to trying out more of their properties.

Great value!

This was our first visit to Takasaki, and if we return, we'll stay here again. The rooftop onsen was really nice, and the rooms are modern and clean. I wish the bed was a little more comfortable (it was quite firm), but felt no different than sleeping on tatami and futon. The staff is helpful and kind.
