1-night stay for business

Great hotel. Enjoyed my stay. Room was very clean and comfortable. The television channel selection is lacking, especially FOX NEWS. Other than that, I was very satisfied. Bathroom was very clean too.

A Very Tired Doubletree

wirepaladin08on 13/08/2017 17:32

The Columbus Doubletree has seen better days. The entire building is tired and needs some money spent on it. Carpet is worn, doors fit poorly and don't close properly. The safe in the room didn't work (it was fixed during our stay after we pointed out the problem), the AC unit makes excessive noise. The beds are adequate; nothing better. Breakfast was edible but most everything was overcooked. One morning the coffee was hot; one morning the coffee was cold. Housekeeping was poor -- when we returned to the room the coffee cups from the morning remained sitting out. The kleenex dispenser in the bathroom that was empty when we left for the day remained empty when we returned.

The hotel has a good location near I-185 and the front desk staff is friendly. Beyond those things there isn't much to offer here.

Comfort

Very comfortable room and the staff was great. Good happy hour items and prices. The dinner food is plentiful and reasonably priced. The other amenities were plenty from local restaurants being near by. The parking lot was large and outside of the hotel always being cleaned and groomed.

Will not be staying here again if at all possible

PROs:
- Staff Friendly.
- First, I want to say that the staff at the concierge desk are always positive, professional, and very friendly.
- Centrally located.
- Government Per Diem rate.

CONs:
- So Diamond members can NOT bring a guest for complimentary breakfast UNLESS that guest resides in the same room with the Diamond member. That's what we were told by the restaurant staff. That's not what we were told at check-in or at any other Hilton we've stayed at.

- The owner of this building is derelict in his responsibilities to maintain a high quality hotel.

- The building is old and needs upgrading.

- Every door in my room is pulling away from the frame (the top hinges have the screws pulling out from the door).

- My main entry door does not close on its own. I have to grab the handle and lift the door, then hip-check it closed.

- There is no fan in the bathroom, only a louvered hole in the wall that is dust encrusted.

- The TV turns on to NO sound - every time. The solution is to turn off the TV, then, turn it back on and hold down the down volume then up volume. Then if you turn to channel 7 (Fox News) there still might be no sound. Repeat this a couple times and eventually sound will work.

- My co-worker across the hall had the same TV issue and also his toilet would not fill with water so it wouldn’t flush. That was repaired but he still has to hold the flush handle down to make it flush correctly.

- When he initially arrived, his door wouldn’t respond to the phone BT key. He called tech support and they recreated his Hilton digital key, but it still didn’t work. He was given a conventional card key and was told that was good enough. Seemed kind of odd, like, don’t bother us kind of attitude.

- On my last night here, I set the AC for 76 so it wouldn’t come on too much. Well, the damn thing came on late and stayed on. I was almost froze out.

- Then this morning, while trying to catch up on some sleep I was robbed of before checkout, the cleaning crew started banging on doors and letting them slam every few seconds as they came and went into adjacent rooms. They made it impossible to sleep. I guess as they leave a room, they let the door slam up against the security bar...who knows. Pretty annoying when trying to sleep.

I will ask my company to never book me into this hotel again.
