Average hotel which could use some upgrades
Jahoovdmeeron 20/08/2017 16:06This hotel is located in de convention district which is giving you a good opportunity to travel downtown with the lightrail. The hotel is a big hotel with an open lobby. The hotel itself is has been there for a while which you can see. The staff was friendly en helpful. The digital key didn't work at arrival. The staff resolved this quickly. The parking of your car is not free, they charge you for overnight. The elevators brings you up quickly to the the top floor where we stayed. The floors are having low ceilings and are out of time. The room it self are big with a balcony. It looks you have walked in the eighties. That's how the room looks like. The most modern are the beds and the flat screen. The bathroom is spacious but also outdated. The first night we noticed (smelled) that somebody was smoking in that room. Also they played some loud music next door. One quick call to the front desk and it was quiet for the rest of the night and we didn't smell any smoke again. Still it is strange that they state they are a 100 % smoke free hotel and its was not for the room next-door. They do have also a swimming pool and fitnessroom. They are all good. The hotel is in urgent need of some modernization. Money wise and location wise you are ok at this hotel.
Premium Balcony Rooms are well worth it
Tyche75on 20/08/2017 00:28I've stayed at this property on numerous business visits to Portland; I've consistently been able to book one of the 'premium' balcony rooms in the main tower (Tower 1, I think they call it). These rooms are spacious, and especially on the higher floors normally have views either of the city skyline (my preference; these are fantastic during both day and night), or of trees and Mt. Hood in the distance. They make for a really pleasant stay - it's great to have a small balcony (they are as long as the room, but narrow, so do not have seats/tables - more of a stand-and-look experience), and the views can be breathtaking.
I also find their complimentary breakfast (included with some rates, and for some higher tier members of the Hilton Honors program) to be more generous than most other Doubletrees, as you are not limited to the continental (cold) items, but can also partake of the hot buffet dishes. The buffet selection is also pretty ample, including several pastry choices, often local in flavor (such as berry minipies).
The staff is also consistently helpful, and if you let them, will ply you with more of the signature cookies than you'll know what to do with.
The only negative I noted is that the doors don't fit perfectly within the frame - so will often rattle when neighboring doors are slammed. Hopefully they'll update the doors at some stage, but it's a pretty minor thing and did not impair my sleep.

dw4boyson 19/08/2017 21:13The staff here was great and helpful. We got in early and they really tried to get our rooms ready. Even the head of housekeeping came and spoke with us. The rooms were nice clean and beds comfortable. Recommend for Portland stay
breakfast okay
Deborah Kon 17/08/2017 17:10I was on a bus tour so we were given a chit for breakfast, but it was only for the buffet which was good but lacking. It was extra for an omelet, which I think is silly. There was a kitchen so a specific chef was not necessary. Room was comfortable and I did have a small balcony. Nice park across the street and mall is next door for restaurants and shopping.
Convenient Location - Wonderful Staff

Easy access to the Max Line. Took it everywhere, all over Portland.
Upon checking in on August 3rd, Javier was warm and welcoming. During breakfast on the fourth, we had a wonderful waitress. Wish I got her name. Despite us ordering the buffet, she was attentive and friendly.
At the end of our trip to Oregon, we stayed August 12th and 13th. Paula was at the front desk, seemingly for 48 hours straight. Every time day or night I happened by the lobby, Paula was there with a smile. In fact, it appeared that while others manned the desk with her, she had the strongest customer interface. She handled each guest quickly and efficiently and always with a smile.
When checking out I told Paula we had a wonderful stay and she gave a little cheer. Remarkable employee. Hope she's recognized.
