Stay away from this place
Colin Gon 21/08/2017 13:18We went for a coffee - we were there 40 mins. The coffee was awful - dishwater at best - and 10 days later we got a parking fine for £100 (which we are contesting)
Great shame - but the new owners are not in the least bit interested in the customer, just their pockets!
short break
potel1970on 18/08/2017 16:39Just stayed at this hotel for two nights but rather impressed. Easily found on the outskirts of Colchester. pleasant hotel. Reception staff friendly and polite. Room well appointed and comfortable, nice comfortable bed. Hanging space but unusually no drawers. Plenty of very hot water at all times. Only problem was that the bathroom light did not work after the first night, couldn't be fiixed so we were immediately offered a change of room. Pleasant bar and restaurant area. Crown pub 200 yards away serves good food.
Very stylish
smiffyEnglandon 30/07/2017 19:27Reception very friendly and polite, rooms, corridors and public areas spotlessly clean and newly refurbished. Shame they charge for the little packets of biscuits in the room but that is my only issue.
Comfortable enough but lacking in a few details
JuliaH478on 29/07/2017 19:59I stayed here for one night while working nearby. The room was comfortable and clean, the bed excellent. Even though the hotel is just off the busy A12 it was quiet and peaceful. I was puzzled to find that it was not possible to use the bedroom lights individually - it was either all or nothing, so i could not read with a soft bedside lamp.
The shower was disappointing, the water pressure lacking, and I thought the bathroom could do with refurbishing.
I liked coming back late from working in the evening and being able to drink with colleagues in the bar. Breakfast however was fairly basic, with only watery scrambled egg, bacon, sausages and baked beans as the cooked options. What, no mushrooms or tomatoes?!
All in all satisfactory experience, especially given that I wasn't paying for the stay.
Hot hot Hot!
purpleorange89on 17/07/2017 11:03Myself and my fiancee stayed here for two nights last weekend. We was originally booked into another hotel but they couldn't accommodate us for the second night so we moved here through bookings.com
The staff were all friendly and helpful whilst checking in and the night staff too. We had to ring the bell on both nights as we returned late.
We were happy with the room cleanliness, comfy bed with enough pillows, tv, and a modern bathroom.
The only negative things I have are..
The room was so Hot!! We slept with the window open..infact we just didn't shut the window in all the time we was there! I was awoken at 6.50am on the first morning by a delivery lorry unloading.. fortunately we was due to be early anyway!
I didn't complain to anyone so maybe anyone visiting in the future could request a fan? I'm not sure.
Mini bar food and drink is kept on the side there for is warm..like really warm! Had it have been in a fridge I would probably have used it more, but I begrudge paying £1.95 for a warm bottle of sprite.
Breakfast was simple, a help yourself buffet with a hot choice of baked beans, scrambled eggs, bacon and sausages. All were hot and of good quality. Other things on offer are toast, cereal, yoghurt, fresh fruit and cheese.
We booked a hotel so we could get where we needed to be for those couple of days with ease, as we no longer live in colchester. It was a fair price for a standard no frills hotel, I would recommend if you want somewhere to stop by for a night or two.. I wouldn't recommend if you wanted a nice weekend away where you want to lay in every morning or go for walks as there's not much to do around there without being able to drive. Taxi to train station wasn't to expensive at £7.50.
