Wonderful accommodation and delicious foods

Over the last few years we have stayed at Dunkery Beacon Hotel on many occasions. One of the main attractions of the hotel is the high standards of the proprietors both in the running of the hotel and in particular in the Coleridge Restaurant where the food is superb. The number of awards achieved both for the standards in both the hotel and the restaurant bear witness to this. So much so that I found the previous review quite surprising.
In all our many visits we have never had reason to complain. The food is quite superb and is in fact one of our main reasons for returning so often.
Add to this the fact that we always receive a warm welcome and find that the proprietors and staff always go that extra mile to make our stay comfortable and thoroughly enjoyable.
I find it unbelievable that customers would be told to sort it out for themselves by people with such high standards.

Enjoyed a very pleasant evening at Dunkery Beacon with friends at the weekend. We received a very warm welcome, the staff were very attentive and the food was delicious. The only 'glitch' was that the 2 steaks that the men ordered were muddled up. My husband had ordered a large to be cooked medium and our friend a standard size to be cooked rare. When they were brought to the table the standard was cooked medium and the large steak was rare. We pointed it out to the waitress. She checked with the chef, who said we should 'just sort it out between yourselves' !We were surprised as the chef had admitted it was his error. An apology would have helped. Other than that we couldn't fault the service and we will return in the future.

Relaxing Weekend

Arrived to a very warm welcome from Jane offering tea and biscuits after our journey. A very comfortably appointed room with a large bathroom including a powerful shower over the bath. Luxury toiletries provided along with homemade shortbread and fresh milk on the tea tray. There is a lovely lounge to relax in before thoroughly enjoying John's freshly cooked food and Jane's recommendations regarding wine choices. Delightful views and walks mean we will visit again.

Delightful hotel

This small country hotel is delightful. Our room was beautifully appointed, had a large bay window with amazing views across Exmoor, and a 4 poster bed with very comfortable pillows and bed linen. The food was varied and delicious using local produce. Jane was an excellent host and provided us with local walk ideas tailored to our particular needs. Our weekend was relaxing and enjoyable

We arrived having walked over Dunkery Beacon from Withypool on a beautiful day and were greeted warmly by Jane. We had drinks outside in the sunshine before being shown to our ground floor suite which was doggy friendly. Unfortunately we stayed in a Monday so the restaurant was closed so we ordered in a takeaway. The breakfast was delicious and our packed lunch for the next walk was fantastic. Would highly recommend Jane and John's hospitality.
