Definitely will be back
JohnIRon 26/11/2016 03:56Based on my past reviews, you can see I almost always stay in name brand hotels. Since Kalona is a small community, hotel options are limited. I had heard good things about the Dutch Country Inn, so I tried it out.
I am very glad I gave this place a chance. It is run by a family who is working very hard to give their customers a great experience. The check in lady was very friendly, helpful and prompt. I stayed on the first floor in a nice room. It was clean, quiet and comfortable. The bed was just right and I had a great night sleep. The water pressure and heat were great.
The neatest part is this hotel is right in the middle of Amish country. Ask them to give you a few suggestions on which places the "english" like to visit to get a taste of the Amish.
I was talking to someone who said that he even enjoyed the Dutch Country Inn as a StayCation.
I will be back again in the future to this great hotel.
Nice place! Great Stay!
Donnie Son 16/11/2016 14:47Staff were very accommodating. Not sure why some negative ratings. My room was clean and everything was as expected.I have traveled all over this country and even in Europe for a motel in a small town it is rather nice. Even the bed is rather comfortable. And for those that watch TV there is a nice selection of channels. Would definitely stay here anytime!
Disappointed :(
pollyl538on 01/11/2016 23:02We had a very friendly reception when we arrived at this hotel. The hostess was awesome. When we arrived at the room she assigned to us, we found the bed totally stripped down and not made. We asked for a different room. It was just ok. I am one to like rooms that are VERY clean. There was dust and dirt along edges of walls, corners and behind nightstand. You only receive soap, no shampoo. Luckily, I happened to have a small bottle of shampoo with me from another hotel that we had stayed at.There were only two bath towels provided, besides hand towels and wash cloths. I use two bath towels myself, one for body and one for my hair. So be sure to ask for additional towels if you need them. The shower is different. It does not have the standard "pull knob" that other showers do. We could not figure it out and had to call front desk. NOTE: ON THE FAUCET (where the water comes out) you have to pull the "lip" of the faucet DOWN, when the water is running into tub, in order to engage the shower.
Our room was not vacuumed daily. The beds were made and towels replaced. The bathtub had not been cleaned.
In the evening we saw that there was a Keurig coffee machine to use to make yourself a coffee. I was looking forward to a nice coffee in the morning. But I found the Keurig had been put away and replaced with an old time percolator. Needless to say, the coffee was not very good.
Simple but adequate
Rita_Rhodeson 26/10/2016 20:16I'm not sure why other reviews have been negative unless those travelers were expecting a five-star posh hotel, which this isn't. It's just a small-town, simple, family-owned motel. The rooms were clean and comfortable. During the day, there is some traffic noise from the nearby intersection, but at night it was quiet enough to sleep well. Breakfast was also simple but adequate -- a basic continental breakfast. Staff was friendly and efficient. It served our purposes well.
Convenient, Clean and Easy
957leejon 05/09/2016 19:57I found the room more spacious and cleaner than other small town motels. Check in was a breeze and because of events in the area we needed a 4th night which they provided after a cancellation. We had to move across the hall for the 4th night, but that was no big deal. Room prices were good, the WiFi was a bit slow but after jumping routers it was fine. Only improvement I would have liked would be an exercise room, but you rarely find those in a small town. There is a bit of road noise from the rumble strips on Hwy 1 at the stop sign. But we learned long ago to bring a wave sound machine on all our trips. We never eat at the free continental breakfasts, but it looked like most others. Even though it is 14 miles from our relatives we will certainly stay there again.
