Overnight visit

Stayed end of march on an over night visit, disappointed there was no chef that night after traveling 5 hours to get there. Had to get a sandwich from the nearest garage. The room was clean and situated near the garden due to us having our dog with us. Whilst taking a shower the shower door jammed resulting in me sustaining a nasty fall and causing a spinal fracture. Nobody around in the reception to report it. Not sure if I'd choose this hotel again if visiting the area. However, it was a convenient hotel if you had a pet with you.

Such a shame!

We didn't think we could ever write a negative review about this hotel or any other hotel as we are not negative people and work with the general public, so we tolerate more than most.
We visited this hotel a year ago and had such a fantastic time we promised ourselves that we would return. We really wished we hadn't and have now decided that we shall stay elsewhere in the future.
The owners are lovely and I really did want them to do well in their new venture. But a year on.... things have gone backwards. The room we paid for wasn't the room we got as we had stayed in the executive room before and this time we ended up in the standard room for the executive room price, no draught alcohol, limited bottled beer in the bar, the bin in the bathroom hadn't been emptied, which to my horror had sanitary towels in it. The dinner menu was limited but I must say the chef gained brownie points. The owners clearly do not have any staff as they were running around doing everything from waiting tables to bar work, delivering towels to the room and manning the reception. The owners and staff were really lovely and extremely courteous so it does sadden me that their hard work isn't working for them.
We would of given more than one point in the rating, but the used sanitary towel in the bathroom bin was awful.
And yes we could of complained at the time, but we do not complain for monetary gain, the owners are clearly struggling with a huge lack of staff etc and our jobs are stressful enough and we like to make the most of our free time.

Small, outdated hotel. Urgently needs renovation.

From the outside this hotel looks appealing. On the inside it quickly becomes apparent that nothing mich has changed since they won a price in 1995. Everything in this hotel is old and damaged and/or dirty (e.g. bed, shower, toilet). Breakfast is minimal. They offer good cereals and fresh variety of eggs. Only positive was the free and relatively fast internet connection.
Will never stay again.

A super location. The hotel is splendid and the manager (Kevin) was great. We had a long chat about the Lodge, which used to be the Accommodation of the Officer Commanding RAF Duxford. (A big player in the Battle of Britain and the featured aerodrome in the film "Battle of Britain").
A nice room with comfy bed.
Looking forward to staying again.

Poor value for money

My first room smelt like a charity shop so i asked to be moved, which a very nice young lady did without question. My second room was in dire need of some love and attention. The wall paper was coming off the wall, taps broken, and was generally in poor condition. After a long journey I needed a cup of tea, but the was only 1 tea bag! Can not comment on the breakfast, as I decided to eat elsewhere. The are much nicer hotels in the area, for not a lot more money. Will not be returning.
