Good hotel but needs improvement Patrick Fon 25/06/2017 19:59
Spacious and clean bedrooms, well decorated indoor communal spaces. The staff speaks very little English and the wi-fi signal is extremely poor. There is a swimming pool, however it's closed during the lunch break and no services are provided (no towels or bar).
Nice decor and modern looking, but that's it ajlauton 06/03/2016 15:24
This hotel looks really modern and big, and impressive, by China standards, for a local hotel. But it ends there. The service is really underwhelming and the food is tasteless. The hardware is great, but the "software" is pretty terrible. The staff are pleasant and try, but I think the management is something else...
Handy for GUFS, would expect more languages in an airport/business hotel NixxiJon 17/02/2016 14:38
This hotel is close to the airport and handy for the university, where I was attending a conference. It is quite a way away from everything else. Unfortunately, for a hotel that supposedly caters for people on business trips etc., the language skills of the staff were pretty poor. Trying to arrange my booking over email was a nightmare, and if the one receptionist that spoke and understood English wasn't working, we were a bit stuck. Furthermore they had no concept of the chip and pin system, they kept trying to bypass it and I ended up having my card rejected because they didn't understand it - very bizarre, I can't believe that other guests don't use chip and pin, given that it is standard in Europe! This led to a nightmare trying to explain to staff that I needed to make an international call to my credit card company to find out what was wrong, even though I had no credit on my room (they impose some arbitrary limit, very weird behaviour, I don't know why they don't just keep a copy of your passport so you can't skip paying the bill, like literally everywhere else in the world).
We ate in the Chinese restaurant one evening, the staff there also lacking language skills. In Europe, it's near impossible to get a job in hospitality if you don't speak at least one other language. The waitresses all stood there watching us while we tried to decide what to order, it was very unsettling.
Rooms are fine, pool is nice (but take a swimming cap). Good selection of food at breakfast.
I had a massage in the salon in the lobby, it left me black and blue. I don't know what happened, since I couldn't communicate with the therapist :(
Very pleasant modern hotel close to the Baiyun mountain amyandrichard2015on 27/11/2015 21:05
This is a smart, modern hotel that is a little frayed round the edges in places but still very pleasant with charming friendly staff. The breakfasts are a bit odd by Western standards - about a million different dishes and quite expensive, but there are lovely bakeries nearby which are much more reasonable and may be more to Western tastes.
DO NOT STAY HERE.. Booking cancelled without notification Shelly Con 03/11/2015 09:46
Booked a room through Agoda during the Canton Fair this October, I thought it'd be a place to relax after a day of walking at the fair. The problem started first with the distance, it was much further than they advertise, took about 40 minutes to get there and cost 80rmb.
When I got there the front desk took a long time finding my reservation, finally after 10 minutes she told me it was cancelled! I called the manager over because I did not receive any email from Agoda but he kept insisting that the hotel already informed Agoda of the price change due to the increased rate during the Canton Fair and had cancelled the reservation... He said if I wanted to stay there I would need to pay double the rate I reserved for. He also insisted that we were not charged but upon confirming with Agoda our reservation was not cancelled and they were not informed.... The only reason this happened was to inflate the prices during the fair. The manager and front desk staff's attitude was very rude and unaccommodating to guests.
After this fiasco I did not want to stay any longer, tried to hail a cab which took another 40 minutes as this hotel is in the middle of nowhere. .. ended up staying at Rosedale Hotel ( which I highly highly recommend).
