Refurbishment

bernarddessoyon 24/08/2017 16:48

I've never stayed at this hotel but have visited many times for lunch, drinks etc.. Under the new management I did have my doubts about what they were doing to the place, but now it's taking shape, I can see that a lot of thought has gone into the change. The hotel was in desperate need of refurbishment and I believe that the styling that is emerging is very much in keeping with a manor house of olden times. The live piano music has been moved from the restaurant to the reception hall which I think is a good idea as it can now be heard as soon as one walks into reception and most lounges.
I can't comment on the Spa aspect as I have not been into that part of it, but the hotel seems a busier place since that opened.

Staff go above and beyond

A group of 6 of us recently visited here for an overnight stay. We were not informed of the renovations taking place and owing to the refurbishment our 3 twin rooms could not be honoured so we were upgraded to 3 grand doubles. Just as well we're all friends! The main stairwell and bar were having work done so we had to use the service lift or staff staircase which unfortunately smelt a bit unsavoury. This manor will benefit greatly from the on-going improvement works as there were stains on the carpet and upholstery and a huge dip in my bed.

The restaurant staff were very knowledgeable about food and wine. They knew which food contained animal products so these items were adapted for my friend. The spa was lovely and all of the facilities were new.

Lovely bathroom products were available in the rooms but the shower had very poor water pressure. I would recommend Eastwell for the spa package but not for special occasions until all the renovations are complete. An enjoyable experience where I cannot stress the high standard of service received enough. The staff were incredibly helpful, accommodating, professional and polite and a lovely gentleman whose name escapes me particularly went above and beyond with his service.

Spa

Extremely disappointed with the service from the Spa.

Booked my wife in for her birthday a month in advance and when she arrived, she was told that there were no treatments available for her. She wasn't made aware that she had a voucher for treatments either.

She turned up five minutes late for a massage which I had booked in advance and was told by the receptionist to take a seat. After 45 minutes of watching the receptionist pick her nails, she was informed that she had missed her treatment and could only rebook it at 5pm, by which time she was unable to attend.

Called through and expressed my disappointment to them and they offered a refund on the treatment. After three weeks I'm still waiting....

Very poor overall experience and would recommend booking elsewhere.

Farewell Eastwell

My husband and I have visited Eastwell for 10years. It had always been a place of old fashioned luxury and charm, the service was always superb and the food excellent. However the hotel has now been replaced with a team who are unorganized and the service less than satisfactory. Upon arrival we were not told of the renovations, which may I add we understand this needs to happen to an old building however the bar was being run on a table top, drinks were not served cold. Staff throughout the stay continually talked between them selves about their personal lives and difficulties they are having in the work place. When we went to book a table for dinner we were turned away as it was fully booked... We had to leave the hotel and eat locally. This is not an idea of a restful and luxurious break. Room service, I'm not sure where to begin ... I will name it fawlty towers.
Champneys are turning this gem into a mediocre hotel with cheap furniture replacing the antiques, my husband and I were shocked at the state of the restaurant.. think along the lines of Frankie &Bennies. The history has been wiped clean by promotional booklets looking more like a John Lewis catalogue than a luxury hotel brochure.
Staff did not clear our breakfast trays for the two nights we stayed this is unacceptable.
It pains me to say farewell to Eastwell we will not be back, the hotel has changed course and good luck to Champneys you have big shoes to fill.

Disappointing return

This was a second stay at Eastwell Manor and certainly a bit disappointing. The previous splendour and charm had disappeared, the mews cottages decor was tired and lacking lustre. Such a shame as we had really enjoyed the previous stay. The building is a fabulous piece of history, which was promoted on our last visit, alas not this time only champneys promotional material. We were very surprised to have only very limited bar meals available as the spa restaurant was only open at weekends. We went out to the Mill House nearby which served good fare, but it was a shame not to have choice on site.
Breakfast looked promising, smart menu, food tasted OK but presentation was very poor. White food lost on a white plate, no garnish or any form of dressing, this was not fine dining.
Not sure we'll be back.
