What People are saying

Nice!

Andrea Con 03/06/2017 04:07

The best part about this hotel was the staff. We loved Rosa, who was the hotel cook and just the sweetest person to talk to. It is off the beaten path which we liked but at night you do hear the horns for the chicken buses at 3a,4 and 5 am which woke us up. No wifi in the rooms but it is at the little restaurant and worked great.

Beautiful!

Stayed here for a few days as part of a longer trip through Guatemala. The rustic beauty of the hotel, surrounding farm, and of course the lake were a highlight of our trip. We stayed on the third floor, and I spent most of my downtime reading in a hammock overlooking the lake-- perfect! The staff was also very kind (despite my limited Spanish skills) and happily arranged tours for us.

Some notes--
- It is quite cold when the sun goes down. Bring a pair of sweatpants and a sweater to spend time on the porch in comfort. Early morning is beautiful!
- As other reviewers have said, the chicken buses start honking as they go into town early in the morning. I was not bothered by them and slept fine. But it's not a silent night-- this is Guatemala!
- Breakfast each day was delicious. The dinners were not. Go into San Juan or San Pedro for lunch & dinner. Both have plenty of tasty, cheap eats, and San Pedro has many more options beyond.

Nice retreat for a solo trip

I spent one night here after a conference in a nearby town. This was the solo part of my trip. My only regret was that I did not stay longer. Grounds are beautiful. Although the lake view is not so great from the rooms, it is easy to walk down to the water for a view. Room was very spacious and clean, and quiet. There are no elevators but stairs are doable. Meals were all delicious. The soup was really nice. Even though a group was holding a conference there, it was quiet. I did the sauna in the morning, which was wonderful. One day I hope to return.

Great views, friendly staff

I stayed one week in their new apartment, and it was a great experience. It was walking distance to town, the coffee was amazing, breakfast was excellent and the rooms were clean.

If you are looking for something modern with great amenities, this is not it. Rooms were basic and comfortable, but not extravagant. How water was a gamble. Overall, I very much enjoyed my stay and would highly recommend this place for my friends who like to travel off the beaten path. If you are looking for a posh vacation at a Hilton, this is not it. Also, not quiet. Most of the time it was quiet and peaceful, but I had a rooster who woke me up at 3 am, and the horns blare every morning for workers taking the bus, so be forewarned. I am not complaining, just please know that these noises are part of the environment.

Note, bring slippers and warm pajamas, it was cold at night with the tile floors and no heat, especially if your how water was being temperamental.

Quiet

We stayed one night in this hotel after spending the afternoon at Panajachel and the evening in San Pedro. There was a hammock outside of the rooms that I really wanted to relax in the next day but another guest was already using it. There was wifi in the kitchen which was good. The room was pretty basic but fine. There is a dock right at the hotel but we didn't know that so we arrived at San Juan and then took a Tuk Tuk over. There is pretty much nothing to do in San Juan so if you are planning to hang out, you can take a short Tuk Tuk ride over to San Pedro for a nightlife.
