This past weekend we were planning on staying at an Econolodge in Michigan for our family vacation. We had been to this location already last year and enjoyed our stay, so I booked the hotel online back in April for our stay in July. I called prior to booking our 3 night stay to check on things and we were a go. We made the 4 1/2 hour commute with 2 little kids, checked in, got to our room, changed into our swimming suits, only then to discover that the entire pool area was closed!!! There was absolutely no notification of this online or when I called. Apparently the pool area had a ventilation problem and had been down since the past October. The entire area was closed down because of mold. This was not going to fly for our one and only summer vacation with 3 kids. Our room and the hotel had an odor to it, and with my husband working in HVAC knew it had to do with mold. After discovering all of this, I asked to cancel our reservation. The nice lady at the front desk told me I needed to check in with Choice Hotels, whom I spent several hours with on the phone. Choice customer service informed me that the general manager was the only one who could refund my money. After also spending several hours on the phone trying to find a safer, cleaner hotel with working amenities, as well as being on the phone with customer service, it was a real run around. I still haven't heard back from the general manager at Econolodge and ended up spending over double the cost to make last minute arrangements to stay at other locations, 1 even in a different town because of availability. I would appreciate it if someone would help render this situation, as if not, I believe we are done being Choice Hotel customers all the way. Very, very, very disappointed with the situation!!!!!

Needs deep cleaning and repairs

This hotel could be good if someone would give it a deep clean and a fix the little problems in the rooms. Faucet on backward, no plugs in tub drain or sink drain, floorboards dirty with months of dust carpet not vacuumed properly and dirt, towels stained. I realize this is a Econo Lodge but if you go to Marquette or Munising the Econo Lodges there are so much cleaner and so much better maintained!

I have to go to iron mountain for the missus's medical stuff regularly ,its 100 miles for us so we have to stay the night before her appointments. I had been using other hotels,but tried the econo lodge for a change and to save money.ILL not be going anywhere else when I'm in iron mtn from now on !!! The staff were super friendly and helpful from the moment we checked in, the suite was really ,really nice,if dated and very,very clean,fresh smelling and well laid out . the bed was incredibly comfortable and the room was very quiet and relaxing (aside from a slight noise from the heater) .Ive stayed all over the country ,usually in rooms costing 3 times as much or more and they weren't any better than this one,The excellent staff made it even better, my only complaint is I couldn't find where to contact the parent company and praise the desk girl for being so sweet and professional. If your going to iron mtn get a suite at Econo lodge!

Good for the price!

After reading the reviews here, I probably would not stay here. However, you are at an Econolodge for petes sake and for the price, I don't think it can be beat. The desk people were all nice, the room adequate, breakfast good, coffee free! No animal smells of any kind, sheets clean, bathroom clean, however needs to be updated. We were out and about all day and night so this was strictly for shut eye only.

This trip was to be a fall color photo opt. It was the main reason for the trip. The hotel well it was open and seemed to be ok by the ratings. Not sure how they live in life but not for this lady. The place has a VERY strong animal smell! The carpets are nasty and we stayed on the first floor. I stated when I called I am very o.c.d. on a clean room and no smoking or pet smells. Sad to report this had all that and more. I tried to tell the girl at the desk the night we checked in we would not be staying more then one night. I knew just by the smell walking into the hotel at check in. The young girl did not know how to take care of that and was told I had to do this in the AM. Hotel rules state you must cancel the night before your stay. Yeppers, that was the start of our stay. I knew it was not good.
It was late and we are stuck for the cost of the room any ways. The WIFI is a BIG JOKE! We will get back to that in a moment.

The room was so strong in animal smells my allergies kept me awake all night! My eyes hurt so bad, I was not a happy camper to say the least. We had booked the room for a few days and then we would be moving on to another city. I could not stand it and by morning I was done. We told the guy that we are checking out. Any questions from the manager call us. No charges due to the staff not doing the job. That is the one and only good thing. Thank you for doing the right thing.

WIFI ,well if you stand at the window and use taco bells internet of another business you are ok for a short moment. The hotel staff did not know why but, they had it on their phone so all is good. WOW! Just not sure what to say to that one. This is not a place I would stay ever again.
The food is a sad story in its self.

The hotel is run down and needs the following;
New carpet, linoleum flooring or tiles for easier cleaning. The new staff that can clean - if you allow pets rethink the flooring option.
Eating area get rid of the carpet and in the main entrance for sure!
Fix that step down or get rid of that asap! I could see an older person falling for sure..law suit will follow due to your lack of taking care of it asap! You know it is a danger.
Bathrooms need to be vented properly and redo shower head with the proper height.
Bedding is just nasty and need to be BURNED! Replace and with cotton or something that you can bleach. Things like sheets need it in hotels and we all know why.
Pillows area big deal and you should replace when they are that bad! Make a deal buying bulk with a company please!
No carpet should be in pet rooms and keep them listed as just that due to smell and cleaning reasons.
New staff that can clean!
Trained staff that can bring it!

I wish them the best and if you ok with smells and the cost is in the ball park good luck.
I must say this makes me loose faith in people and businesses sometimes.
