No value for money
Arjan Pon 13/06/2017 02:35Pretent to have a lot of features while in fact it is an outdated hotel above a parking garage. Reception at first floor and rooms on 8th, 9th and 10th with one crappy working elevator.
Gym only contains broken equipment so not useable at all.
Roomkeys often break down so you can't enter your room...
Staff is okay.
Better than expected
CathyDArizonaon 10/06/2017 01:34I had read all the horror reviews and was quite concerned. We had no issues. Arrived early and they took my cell phone and promised to call when something was clean. They did just that. They had all paperwork ready to sign when we arrived. The elevator was working and we were able to use the luggage cart to take our luggage up the elevator to our room. The King bed was very comfy and plenty of pillows too. We were pleasantly surprised that there was even a small fridge in the room. Room was clean and spacious.
Yes things are a little dated but they were in good shape. For the cost it was an amazing deal for being so close to Beale St. We could park our car and walk everywhere.
The breakfast was also more than we had expected. There was cereal, biscuits and gravy, bagels, cream cheese, bread, pastries, muffins, etc. The staff kept an eye on the items to make sure there was food for the guests.
We did not use the pool but the area was clean and the pool looked nice,.
They did clean our room and we had no issues. Check out was easy. All in all it was a very pleasant surprise for the price!
RUN FAR from this one!
Zoey Fon 05/06/2017 17:07First off I want to explain why I gave it 2 stars instead of 1. This hotel earned the 2nd star only because the room was clean and large. Now onto the horrible parts! When parking in the garage you notice the hotel has some broken windows in some rooms. That right there was a red flag, but my husband and I were tired. We go to the elevator and one elevator has an out of order sign on it. The elevator that somewhat functioned is a death trap. The door tried shutting on me 3 times and one time I couldn't even get on the elevator because the door shut before you can get on. Once we reached our floor (8th) it instantly reeked of marijuana. We get to our room and like I said it was clean and large but the location was terrible. I didn't sign up to be on the same level as the pool and it was full of kids who looked like they never bathed in their life. Neverless we decided to head out and get food. We come back and the same problems with the elevator and the loud kids. Luckily our A/C was so loud that it was white noise to the pool. We take a nap after drive 10 hours and we get woken up by the fire alarm! We get out of our room and the hallway is full of white smoke. We head downstairs to the lobby and stand and wait for instructions. Unfortunately the staff is not trained on how to deal with a fire they are running around like crazy people. The Memphis fire team is slow 15 minutes after the alarm was going off. We find out that it was little kids playing with fire extinguishers and they pulled the alarm. Our floor was covered in white powder. Next morning we get woken up at really early I think 5 in the morning to housekeeping vacuuming up the powder. This hotel needs bought and renovated into something nice and the staff needs training on how to deal in case of a fire.
Cheap and hardly worth that
CaribMarkon 03/06/2017 16:04This is a pretty dumpy old hotel on the top 3 floors of a parking garage, seriously. The location is 2 blocks from some nice hotels, 4 blocks from the Peabody, 3 from the baseball stadium and 6 from Beale St. But the neighborhood goes downhill fast to where this is located.
You arrive on the ramp to the parking garage to a booth that is the office. Parking is $20 per night in that garage and you have a choice to unload your bags there and have one person take them 8-10 floors up on the elevator on a cart while another parks the car. Or park on the 7th floor and hustle your bags without a cart to the elevator. There was only 1 of 2 elevators working while we were there in May (and for some time it appears by reviews) and it's pretty shaky and is blasting music into it.
I had requested a quiet room with a pool view and got a street view near the elevator.
The room is OLD looking and had burn marks on the chair (in a non-smoking) and the stucco ceiling was badly patched from damage. The furniture dates back at least 40 years. (see pics) The room was otherwise clean which made me give this a poor rather than a terrible.
The breakfast room was a large, windowless conference room(?) with some conference tables and cereal, rolls, coffee and that's about it. Nothing hot or fruit.
WiFi was sporadic most of the time. I didn't see anyone at the pool and had no interest myself so I can't comment on that, though it looked clean and was open to the sky surrounded by the 3 floors of hotel on the garage roof. The hallway we were on was VERY dark (9th floor).
I think Econolodge should either sell this off to save their name or renovate it completely. I would not recommend this to families or couples or anyone who wants a nice place to stay. But if you want something cheap a few blocks from everything, this might do you well. Just don't expect much.
Memphis in May
cangel1307on 18/05/2017 01:49We were here for Beale St Music fest. The location couldn't be better. Walking distance to everywhere downtown. We had four rooms, two smelled a little musty and one the aunt conditioner leaked. The elevators were sketchy and only one was working at the time, we did have to ride up the parking garage with an employee but it was a great price. You get what you pay for. I would stay here again just because if the price and location
